| Seems such an odd decision to bring him back.

Odd, but maybe Smith is making a knee jerk decision to our obvious lack of pace. People talk about how annoying the charge downs are, what's even more annoying is we probably wouldn't convert if we pulled it off anyway, unless it was Atkins picking it up.

| Well, think about it, we're 4 years on, he's possibly served his apprenticeship now, got 4 year more experience, if he's still got his speed, or some of it, perhaps we think he's worth giving another chance, we've picked two other lower league players up.
Most importantly, he won't be on a HUGE wedge anymore which is something that was hanging around his neck at the time

| To be fair I do think since we lost Mathers, King and Hicks weve lost some Real popular and enthusiastic Characters... the only time this season when I ve seen the visible enthusiasm and comraderie of a few years ago was when Moz Scored his try at the Etihad. If he came back he wouldnt get many games lets be fair...he wont oust Monas and he'll be behind Riley but he would probably give the squad a bit of a personality boost......
and hopefully the treacle runner Williams will move on

| I used to purposely watch Penny, when he was being criticised for his defense, and on the majority of occassions, he was left in a two on one situation by his centre, which innevitabley lead to a try.
He was one, if not the, fastest players I have ever seen in a Warrington shirt. I would love to see him back, if he has kept that pace.
We really do need someone with a real turn of speed.

This.
With Atkins out, we really do lack pace out wide, and without Myler, we have no pace through the middle either. Warrington lately have been playing like driving over Bridgefoot. Slow as fook and you're never quite sure which lane you should be in.

very fair comment.
i always say, a winger is only as good as his final pass!
Jim challenor was noted for saying that Brian Bevan's tries were down to him giving Bev the ball with half a yard.
If Penny had have been given the ball with half a yard, he would have scored every time.
I say he was unfortunate to be paired with another winger that we played out of position as a centre, Matt King.

| This rumour is gathering pace.
Personally, I liked watching Penny, and I agree to a point that some of the defensive frailties were not his fault, but of the inside men, remember at the time we had a half back who was actually a hooker defending on that side.
His speed and finishing ability is undoubted, and it would be great to see him get a few more on the board like those against Saints all them years ago!
Re Smith, we don't know what the conversation was when Penny left. He may have set this up, go away, grow up as a player and a person and we'll keep an eye on your progress. Who knows?

| I would think Simon Moran has had some input into the re-signing.
Penny was well liked, a very nice lad and he loved playing at Warrington.

| He's still a defensive liability, based on watching Swinton v York some weeks ago on telly.
No thanks.

| For those citing King as Penny's undoing; it wasn't King alone, it was a left side problem, which was instigated by Anderson's lack of discipline in defence. Fantastically aggressive defender, but if he missed an instant overlap would be created putting the outside men at an instant disadvantage.
The bloke on the end always gets hung out to dry. The above, alongside a sizeable contract for a still raw player, was enough to see Penny ushered out.

if you get the attack right, you seldom need defence!
