Who won team of the year last year? I'd be surprised if many people knew...means nothing.

1883.jpg Didn't William Webb Ellis pick up the ball and run, someone should really tell Rugby Union.

Our U20s were both the league leaders and Valvoline cup winners.
We came second in the league, won the challenge cup and are in the Grand final.
Our squad is always in the local media for being involved in community events and are currently the face of a nationwide advertisement to increase investment in Warrington.
Do the other clubs hate us or something

| Gutted for Ben, he defines the words Man of Steel. But Sam Tomkins is a great player & probably the best in British Rugby League.

But the other clubs didn't vote for you. It matters not a jot anyway. No one will remember who won team of the year and you've had a better season than us anyway.

I remember when we use to win the club of the year award. They tend to give it to clubs who don't get a sniff of winning the proper trophies.
As an aside has any club ever won Supeleague, the Challenge Cup and the Academy in the same year?

Can't argue with any awards apart from "club of the year". That's a farce.

| Quote: sally cinnamon "Tomkins deserves it. Wigan topped the league - who do you think that was down to? Take him out of their side and they are behind us, Saints, Cats and Leeds.
I know we all love Ben Westwood and he's a great player but he's missed a fair few games this season and we have generally been OK without him, it's not like taking Tomkins out of Wigan.
Westwood is not as influential an individual as Tomkins.'"
Westwood is not as influential an individual as Michael Dobson... so a strange point
The man of steel award as I heard recently labeled is an award for the most "influential player over the course of a season", for a big hitting non stop no frills hard as nails second rower to be in there with a pivotal attacking full back (with no defensive game whatsoever ), and a hooker who has his hands on the ball more than any other player in a season is nothing more than Westwood deserves.
Tomkins is not a man of steel in the way the name conjures an image up, give him player of the year and give a player with some knackers the title of Man of Steel....
oh by the way when do Carney, Phil Clarke, and Terry O'Connor apologise to all the players in Superleague that were supposedly not voting for Tomkins because of his unlikeability?
they wanted the RFL to change the format so its transparent, and any unfair voting (ie not voting for Tomkins) can be stopped, shocking and now unfounded accusations......apologies from SKY TV..........nahh

You can't argue with winning cups and I know what I prefer for my team to do.

| Fully deserved IMO, just as it would have been if Roby or Westwood had won the award.

| Well done to Sam. It's true, wigan is less than half the team without him. His game has MANY deficiencies but he has scored a lot of tries this season and has carried wigan to the top of the table.
Benny will have a ring and wire will have a big trophy if everything goes well. I think that's preferable to 'club of the year' and 'man of steel'. No used getting worked up.

50086_1357229109.jpg [b:33tg3xj5]Me:[/b:33tg3xj5] I'm still reeling from the news that someone is considering watching the 1st and 3rd game on Saturday and NOT watching Warrington play. It's like being in Shea Stadium when the Beatles came to town and deciding to nip out for a fag.
[b:33tg3xj5]knockersbumpMKII:[/b:33tg3xj5] Is it FOOK, you're good but you're not THAT good, jesus you wanky fans need to get over yourselves, Beatles at the Shea in '65 was a once in a lifetime opportunity for some (despite the following years performance), you can watch a very good team in primrose & yellow play every week if you really wanted to but comparing it to one of the very best music groups of all time in an iconic stadia such as the shea is overegging your importance, you're not even the best team in SL atm:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_50086.jpg |

| Well deserved for Tomkins. As has been noted, he's more important to Wigan than probably any other player is to their respective teams. Plus, it's only going to get more so next year when he goes from a supporting cast of Finch and Leulai to Laughable Matty Smith and Blake Green.
Aside from Tomkins' obvious personality defects, he's a class player, even the most one eyed supporter of another team would admit that. When he goes to Union (might go to NRL I suppose but suspect he'll fancy joining his brother) they'll be much gnashing of teeth and talk of creating ill thought out ways to give him loads of money to stay (see Cunningham, Keiron) - probably by Martyn Sadler.
