| Quote: Saddened! "I agree, in practice it's awful. In principle though it was a semi decent idea, it would cause a major stir in the sport and would get some national coverage if they didn't choose the lowest ranked, don't you think? It would turn a potentially benign semi final into a massive battle as the chosen team attempt to prove them wrong.
I don't think we've ever seen it where a lower ranked team was clearly better than the other, so it's not really had a chance.'"
Club Call is one of the maddest ill-concieved ideas that the RFL have ever had. It embaresses the choosing team and I can't ever envisage an occasion where the choosing team went for anyone other than the lowest ranked team left in the competition. All it does is virtually guarantee that, assuming results go to form/league placings, you get repeat fixtures two weeks later. Even if we were to finish as the winners tomorrow but have Briers, Mick Monaghan and Hodgson stretchered off with broken limbs Wigan would still select Catalan/Leeds.
If the RFL want that bit of drama and doubt regarding the semi-finals, then they would be better off having a random draw similar to the Challenge Cup. You could even make it open so that the two winners from Week 1 could draw eachother. Their only reward for winning being a week off.

| Quote: NtW "There is no way, absolutely no way on this earth, that Wigan would pick the Wire in the semi. Even if Leeds win by 60, and we sneak through in extra time losing Briers, Hodgson and Monas in the process they'd still pick the Rhinos. Club Call is a waste of time and just delays ticket sales for an extra day-and give play-off crowds we can do without anything that hinders that. If we win we play Saints, if Hull win they play Wigan. Catalans/Leeds will have to wait and see what happens Saturday.'"
We have got to consider "Wanes World" here I.m sure he will show some arrogance if the Wire win with loads of injuries and Leeds or Catalans win very convincingly, he will gamble and take on the Wire.

| Just a point about the away end at Saints.
The East stand has 81 seats, 3,899 standing and 5 disabled seats (this will be mainly for the away fans).
So plenty more than 2500

No, he (or rather the Wigan club) would still pick Leeds or Catalans. Why would you pick a team that's finished second and beat you twice over a team you hammered by over 40 2 weeks earlier? Or risk playing the current champs and play-off kings in the final, when instead you could force a local derby between two key rivals, when in those circumstances (I.e. a load of Wire injuries), you'd likely end up playing the GF chokers and team you've clearly got the wood over in the big one?
My point really though is that you can construct so many arguments in favour of picking or not picking any team that in reality your gonna just pick the lowest ranked, to avoid any 'disrespect'-it's already become an unwritten rule.
More interesting from a club call viewpoint would be Catalans and Hull wins-would Wigan risk playing an inform Hull team rather than the travel sick round 1 whipping boys? (they'd still pick Hull though!!)

I think Wigan's decision will be to pick Hull.

The thing I always think of though is, wouldn't it be easier to beat a team at your home ground than a neutral ground? So choosing the highest ranked team, backing yourselves at home, then having a potentially easier final, would be the best run to the trophy wouldn't it?
Maybe not?
I want to see it happen because it would sell the sport to a big audience because, you never know, it might even make the national news with the controversy of it.

That would have been the case for us last year too if Huddersfield had beaten Leeds after we hammered them at home in week one. Once again though Leeds have thrown a spanner in the works...

That's good news then, nice one.

Funny that you should believe that if Wane picked a much weakened Wire side in the CC that would indicate his arrogance. If the situation arises as you say I would think his choice would be quite reasonable, and the only arrogance in what you have said is yours!

| With Club Call, I don't think that any team has been 'picked' other than the the team who finished the regular season as lowest ranked ie: final league position.
With this guy Wane, anything could happen lol.
Not sure if its his choice anyway.

| 100% of the people I have spoken to this weekend say Wigan will pick Leeds.
Me personally, I have that feeling that they will pick us.
