Quote: Paul Youane "Shortlist is made up of the three players who have received the most votes from their peers. The winner is already known but issuing a shortlist allows for more "drama" at the awards ceremony (eg all short-listed players in attendance) plus creates more media coverage leading up to the naming of the actual winner.

Suprosed that Tomkins has made the top three myself but if that's how the rest of super league's players voted then so be it. Fore people to suggest he hasn't had a good season and isn't a good full-back is an embarassment.

Perhaps two Wigan players on the list may suggest a split of the vote going to recognise Wigan's acheivements this year and hopefully is a pointer towards that Morley has won. I hope so but if he hasn't I won't be throwing a tantrum akin to Wigan fans when Roby won.'"

Interesting. I'm going to contact News of the World to see if they can uncover who voted for who. I'd pay a grand for that, how interesting would it be!

Definately had a better season than Peacock. Just had the edge on Graham IMO

On GMR the other month (Thursday evening show) Phil Bailey from Wigan said last year he voted for Matt King - work that one out.

Morley is constantly consistent and therefore should consistently win the man of steel. icon_biggrin.gif

It's hard to say, because while I watch Morley every week, I only see the other two in TV games, or when Wire play against them.
One thing I will say, though - I honestly thought Moz should have won Man of Steel last year. For me, while he has been great this season, he was simply unbelievable in 2009 and I was surprised that Hodgson beat him to it.

I think last weekends game showed the difference between Graham and Morley IMO.

Graham did just as much work as Morley but also scored a game-breaking try (should really have scored another too) and again showed some excellent ball handling in difficult conditions. He offers what Morley offers and a little bit more, and he offers it with the likes of Emmitt and Hargreaves backing him up, rather than Carvell/Wood.

Wouldn't begrudge Moz the award though, top player and top bloke.

I do, however, think it's a bit daft that Roby isn't shortlisted but hey, it's a player vote.

Wheny Roby won it, the award was decided by journalists and was effectively the RL Writers award. After "Robygate" the award has been decided by the players and is effectively the players association award. It would be hard to argue that the person the players voted for did not deserve the award as if anyone should know about rugby league and the contribution of individual players it is them.

Roby has been much better this year than the year he won it and hasn't even made the short-list.

Probably bias, but I'd have Roby down as more deserving than Sam in 2010.

Morley hadn't been as good as he was last season when he really should have won the award. Westwood has surely been the best player at the club this year.

I'd also question the ability of the players to choose. What are they judging off exactly? I can't imagine players will watch any more than what the fans do.

It would be better to let Stevo decide. That way the award could be handed out early March.
