Wigan were never in the running to sign Myler.

My apologies, it was "there are 3 teams in the running to sign Myler".when we'd already signed him 2 months earlier.

Briers may have been offered a 2 year deal, but it doesn't mean he's going

| Logistically, I wonder how he's doing it. I take it he's being put up down there etc, doesn't he have a young child & that ?
Fair play to him, It's good to see he's willing make sacrifices to play SL.
I'll be rooting for him on Saturday.

He was on the BBC London radio show tonight. Sharing a house with 3 others, think they were Andy Ellis (crocked pre-season, still hasn't played), Dave Williams (gets selected sometimes but very little game time - was on the bench for the whole game against HKR on Monday) and Lamont Bryan (Mr Enthusiasm personified but very raw).

| Good luck to Kev, I hope he has a great month.
As for Safeway.1, if he's who I think he is, I will take him at his word.
Have a look through the threads and see if he's started any rumours before this story. I think you'll find he hasn't.

| Smith is trying to get rid of Penny and has informed his agent, Penny is currently looking at Union as one of his options.
He wont be at Warrington next year.

| It's a tough one for me, I've so much time for Penny it's untrue, I don't think there's a player that I'd love to see do well for us than him, he's so enthusiastic and even when he has made mistakes - he's made them trying his rocks off, he's never been lazy or idle, just probably trying to hard. He was the first player I saw who'd run fully 80m full tilt to go and hug Riley after he'd scored, he seems a genuinely nice lad.
But ....
Clearly Smith doesn't see a role for him at our place, clearly. We've got Bridge playing at loose presently as he can't quite get his centre spot back, so when there is a shuffle of the backs it'll be him that comes back in, then you'd think Grix would be next in line to shuffle himself in, then that Williams kid, then maybe Kev. When all is said & done it's very hard to criticise Smith's judgements, look where we are today and alot of that is down to him.
I guess I feel sorry for Penny to a degree as he's only ever featured in the 'badly set up' Warrington side and I still feel he was hung out to dry, I guess there's a bit of me that wants to see him in the structured side of now. If I'm honest, I'm loving the 'shut out culture' that we're developing like everyone else, we're rattling off these stats about conceding 46 pts in the second half, 7 'nils' and all that, if I ask myself deep down do I think we'd still have these stats with Kev in the team ? I'd probably say no, I don't think we would, so I guess I've answered my own question as to why he isn't in the team.
I just hope now it happens for him, this Quins move could be ideal. I hope he shines there, christ almighty they need an injection of excitement down there, he'll provide that, and so their fans should enjoy him. This move should re-ignite Danny Orr, as he'll now have somebody he can aim for, kick early in the count, dinks over the top, bombs - the lot, so have some fun with him, and lets hope this becomes the opportunity for Kev to take to continue his SL career, I'd like to see him stay in SL as oppose to playing RU.

| Agree JWP, wholeheartedly.
The flip side of him joining SL's current bottom/worse side, is just how much quality ball he will see, and of course how much he may have to defend. He could be made a scapegoat like he was here for their misfortunes and come back worse off than when he went mentally.
Hopefully though, he will be a revelation for them, and end up as Hicks long term replacement. That's my hope.

| I think the only sad point in this is some people will remember Kevin Penny as being a bad defender and having dodgy hands when to a fan that understands and watches the game he was neither. What he was…still is, is a raw exciting talent, we won’t have another player who can score those tries that he scored at saints and Leeds when he burst onto the scene.
But we have plenty who will knock on and have it scooped up by the opposition for a score….go ask Amos Roberts about that…
Chris Hicks made a very poor read for a hull try on Sunday not a jot on this message board about it…but plenty about him being a great pro …one more year etc…..
It’s a shame as well because those that watch the NRL will see that Wingers like Penny are creeping into the game over there. They are not all big lumps like Vatuvei (who cant defend by the way) but they have plenty of young kids a bit raw but with pace and confidence… the two kids on the wing for Gold Coast spring to mind straight away.
I suppose Penny is a modern day Mark Preston…a try machine for the pies but he just wasn’t John Monie’s cup of tea.
I wish Penny the best of luck, we’ve had some terrible lazy sour faced outhouses play for this club he was a breath of fresh air….
