Quote: getdownmonkeyman "This highlights an interesting point that is being debated on another forum. The reason for Wigan winning was due to better fitness, whereas Morley having that kind of energy to make such a tackle rather contradicts it.'"

Really don't think it was anything to do with fitness. We had chances after Wigan took the lead but couldn't capitalise on them.

Teams are never going to control the match for a full 80 mins. But what is important is how to react when the other team has the upper hand. Wigan did well to comeback and keep their composure.

Didn't William Webb Ellis pick up the ball and run, someone should really tell Rugby Union. www.squadbuilder.co.uk:1883.jpg

Quote: Rogues Gallery "Great hit, but Stu Fielden was the best prop on show last night.

Great game all round from all the players and a great contest. A draw would probably have been a fair result, there is not a better sport in the world when it is played like that. Hard, fair and fast.

That game should hopefully set the standard for the rest of Superleague this season.

I bet there are some sore bodies this morning.'"

I've just watched the game again and can confidently say Fielden wasn't. In fact, I would say Coley was Wigan's best prop.

SAINTS THE ORIGINAL AND PERENNIAL CHEATS For sale full Saints kit (circa 1989). Shirts in pristine condition, but shorts badly soiled. For 27 - 0 you get a trophy For 75 - 0 you get sod all. Wigan had eight in a row Saints have five in a row:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_3076.jpg

Coley did indeed play well but it was just Fieldens footwork getting through the first tackle and landing face down to win the quick play the ball that impressed me.

I was disappointed with Ben Harrisson after hearing so many good things about him, his missed tackle rate was alarming. Maybe he was just trying too hard to put the big hits in rather than concentrate on making the tackle.

one thing that really stood out when i watched the game back was the way the penalties flowed.

Once we opened up the 16-4 lead the referee showed bias in the way he ran the game... I am not for one minute saying that it just happened in this game.. it appears to happen in most games you watch where one team opens up a decent point lead... It's almost as if the ref's try and even the game up by giving the losing side as much chance to get back into the game as possible..... like the VR call to allow the try when gleeson prevented king from making the tackle... the decision could have gone either way... but if wigan had been leading 16-4 at the time it would certainly have been disallowed.

It doesnt just happen in RL.. it happens in football as well.... teams getting beat 2 or 3-0 get soft penalties to let them back into the game... umpires in cricket give funny lbw decisions when a team is massively behind.

Well Whilst I think there's some debatable truth in that, I don't think there was anything wrong with what Gleeson did. If he was looking at king and not his own player then fine but as it was there was nothing in it. 3 massive plays by Roberts won the game.

A great game though. Credit both sides but we need to bounce back and fast.

I thought Wigan had adopted Huddersfields approach from 2009 in the tackle. Ptb was very slow and what Mathers said in the guardian was spot on before the game about their tactics. Not a complaint really, just smart play. It's about the wrestle rather than just lying on and doing nothing. Frustrating but clever.

We see quite a few of those from Tommy Leuluai, and I think it's great to see.

I have to agree with others though, and say well done to Hansen for keeping hold of the ball, even though he could barely stand up for doing "the chicken dance".

I think he probably won us the game hanging on to that ball.

Mate - It took 30 minutes for us to get our first penalty.

Your lead was opened up whilst getting the rub of the green from the ref, then he started to "even up the penalty count" - Which I don't agree with, but it happens every week.

As to Gleeson - Bentham debated for all of about 2 seconds on that.
To quote him "He's just supporting his team-mate. Nothing wrong with that" - And yes, I *was* listening to him.

If every player was done for obstruction, every time he ran in support, we'd have at least 50% of all tries disallowed in the game.

Hell yeah.

I'm lost without knowing what the ref's are doing (even if *they* don't seem to know what they're doing half the time) icon_biggrin.gif

its an interesting call.... one that me and my mate from wigan were discussing over a few pints. its a fine line between supporting a team mate and obstruction... did the supporting player prevent a defending player from making a tackle that may have prevented the try? In this case the undebatable answer is yes.

so in theory (this put forward by my wigan friend) a player with ball in hand, can run almost sandwiched between 2 of his own players.. preventing a tackle from either side.....
