The Police were asking people yesterday not to travel on the roads unless it was an absolute emergency. I don't regard work as an absolute emergency. You run your own business so I can understand why you battled through the weather, I am a wage slave and I value my safety and well as being one million times more important than my employers sales / profits that were lost for one day.

Well said Fatbelly. My office was closed today as it is simply too dangerous for all the employees to SAFELY get to work. I am just worried now what tonight's alleged -7 degree temperatures are going to mean for tomorrows roads!

weather not stopped me getting to neston the last 2 days, saying that it took me 2hrs yesterday to get from paddington to the daresbury then 30 mins from there to neston, if you drive sensible progress can be made. only gripe even in these testing conditions some idiots still tail gating. I have to go to work because sub contractors live in other areas that may not have been affected as bad by the weather and I have the keys. saying that didnt stay long because they didnt turn up anyway, neston was clear yesterday only started snowing there about 11.00. just one other note, snow never stopped my generation from getting to school

Anybody heard of getting a bit of exercise by walking to work(within distance that is)and don't get me started on schools as i cannot ever remember myself having days off because the school was shut.Any excuse to give teachers more time off.

Oh i do know what i'm talking about + teachers are not high up on my estimation list but that's my opinion isn't it!12 weeks holiday + not a bad salary but when things don't suit them strike action is threatened at the drop of an hat.I don't think i've slipped for 20yrs so thanx for your concern.

out of this 12 weeks holiday you refer to,how much of that do you think teachers actually spend without working?
aside from the day in school teaching there are vast amounts of marking,lesson planning,course work marking and work in conjunction with any specialist roles teachers may also have outside the classroom,then teachers have to try to balance home and family life into all this too.
it's getting a bit slippy out there,so take care,hope i've educated you a little on this matter,remember to listen to what your teacher says.

As somebody whose job involves driving relatively long distances around the country, I actually hope this cold snap continues because it is making the motorways a paradise to drive on...

Warrington to Nottingham and back at a leisurely 70-75mph, without a traffic jam in sight, today was an absolute joy.

The great thing is, these present conditions have had the tremendous effect of driving the nervous numptys off the roads, the numptys who, more often than not, are the catalyst for all the problems that happen on the roads.

Long may it continue.....This is how it must have been before the school run and before we let women loose on the roads....

Please don't insult my intelligence by saying that teachers work nearly all the 12wks holiday they get + if my memory serves me right they had a dispute about 18mths ago,probably about pay as it usually is.Look as many posts on here already state that firemen,police,ambulance + nurses can't be sent home why are teachers any different?Oh + for the record the above job titles don't even earn what a teacher earns which makes it even more galling + for balancing a homelife + looking after children!Hello,you chose to have a family not me.You can't have your cake + eat it.
