| Quote: Rob Wire "A bronze statue of Ray French wearing a flat cap, holding a rugby ball in one hand and a whippet on a lead in the other. That should keep the stereotype going down sarf and keep the southerners happy.'" And he played Yawnian too.

| It should be a 2 man statue showing the flying tackle made by Mike Gregory on Shaun Edwards in the 1990 Final.
Covers all the bases.
Its got probably the most successful player ever to have played at Wembley.
The subject matter shows a player who had chased down 4 Wigan players on his own in a desperate attempt to prevent a try ( the fact that Edwards offloaded to Hanley to score is irrelevant )
And it also pays tribute to a rugby league legend taken from us way before his time

Personally i think it should be Ellery Hanley, he`s the greatest english rugby league player ive ever seen.
Some good Hanley footage here, some of his greatest tries. I think the link is ok as it says "This video contains an audio track that has not been authorised by all copyright holders. The audio has been disabled"
His try against St Helens at Wembley was another great try along with the famous one against Halifax.

| Personally I'd go for Shaun Edwards as I doubt his ten Wembley finals will ever be matched.
Another two worth consideration, Eric Ashton, first player to captain a side to two successive final victories, coach a Wembey winning team and be a director (chairman?) of a Wembley winning team.
Jim Sullivan, World record goal kicker and first man to captain a winning Rugby League Challenge Cup team at Wembley.

Bevan great winger though he was, was never synonymous with Wembley, never having scored there.
This may be of interest to Wire fans a few glimpses of him that you may or may not have seen.

| i believe that wembley are looking at a totem pole design,
from the ground up it goes
sean edwards (to keep the kids away)
alex murphy
ellery hanley
ray french(wearing a cloth cap)
it gyrates round very slowly whilst the hovis music emanates from a speaker in ray's cap.

11 actually ...and he never won a lance Todd trophy !!!!!
His most famous Wembley was probably in 1990, when he played on after breaking his cheekbone.
other than that I doubt anyone other than an Avid Wiganer would be able to name a famous/iconic Shaun Edwards Wembley moment.

| It shouldn't be Shaun Edwards.
It needs to be a player that [imost[/i supporters admired. Somebody that wasn't liked/disliked based on the club/s that he represented. In football Bobby Moore is more famous for captaining England and for lifting the World cup, rather than playing for West Ham. That made him ideal for the football statue.

The try v Hull.
The break for Gregorys try v Saints
The perfect pass for Mark Prestons try v Warrington, look where he was when that move started.
And yes it was 11 appearances, all the more reason to have his statue there, but as I said I'd give great consideration to Eric Ashton and Jim Sullivan for the reasons I alluded to earlier.

| Martin Offiah.
Not for his try in '94, but for being the 'Mystery Guest' 47 times on Question of Sport spanning 1993-2009 and doing it bloody well.

nah it was marginally forward....
to be fair Edwards did then what he did Best ...support (and Support Hanley, as it more often than not meant a try).
what's annoying about that try is that we were on the back of a good repeat set.
Drummond returned a drop out really well and a couple of good drives put us near enough on your line then Crompton Ran up his own backside and Shelford (your prop) knocked Cromptons pass down, for Edwards to pass on to Iro, then onto Hampson who started the break upfield.

| The chances of it being someone involved in rugby league are non existant. My realistic choice would be Bobbie Robson.
