| With gleeson out, and Mathers in there must be some slack in the Salary Cap. On that basis I think signing Mr Carney is a no brainer.
At worst he will be good PR, as well as good around the dressing room. At best he could be the difference that raises us to the next level come playoff time.

| BRIAN Carney has given his reaction to today's announcement that he will be joining Warrington Wolves from rugby union side Munster at the end of the month.

| Bizarre and totally underwhelmed.
Maybe something to do until he joins the backroom staff in some way? I'd be very disappointed if he took the place of our current wingers.

| its all very refreshing this positivity....
he'll take us to the Grand final.......
good in the dressing room......
can still score tries........
good PR........
even Smidger has said He's a championship player ...eh..?
(he was sub in Wigans Challenge cup win in 2002 does that count..?)
its a joke to be fair.....in the last 12 months the bloke has played what amounts to Monday Night touch Rugby on Vicky park, scored no tries in a competative game, and not had his physical shape tested in any way.

Better than Hicks.
He's not played the game for about three years, and hardly set the RU world alight in the meantime by all accounts.

How is he better than Hicks and Riley? Have you seen him play over the last 12 months? He's hardly played and also in a totally different game. What is his record in terms of tackle busts, tries, meters etc in direct comparison?
Really not interested in this signing as I don't, as yet, see the benefit.

Head coach at Sale Sharks next year!
Good signing if fit imo, a real top class winger, but will he get the service?
Guess this means Penny will see out this season at least with the Vikings!

| If you've watched the Lions DVD, you can see what a presence he has. He's very vocal in the GB dressing room that's packed with Fielden, Peacock, Cunningham et al who at the time were all leaders in their own right. He'll give our dressing room another voice, some know how, and a CV to back himself up. He's another who's been to the NRL and earnt their respect, at Newcastle he was a sensation.
On the pitch, who knows what form he's in, fitness, mental, who knows, but I'm guessing Smith will have an idea, he's not a mug, like he wasn't a mug taking Shane Millard toLeeds, or bringing Mathers here. He'll see a part that Carney has to play, great stuff.
I think it could be a great piece of business.
If Penny is still training with us too, he & Riley will learn alot about wing play from him.

| A bit underwhelmed myself, but to be honest, we've lost nothing if he stays til the end of the year. The space is there on the salary cap, none of the younger players (Lee Smith, Fox, Shenton etc.) are available til next season so why not? If nothing else he is decent cover if we get a couple of injuries.

You may just have hit the nail squarely on the head there.

He's a winger, so to be honest, his fitness won't be as big a issue as if he was a forward.
Remember back to when we signed a certain Des Drummond??....He hadn't played any rugby for a while, due to a dispute with Leigh, yet I still recall him dancing down the touchline for a debut try??...
Overall, its a deal that suits all parties....Carney gets a chance for 1 last hurrah, we get the possibility of a very good and proven winger at a budget price...
