Mummy duck is now thoroughly depressed. SHE was the one that was famous for losing five in a row........until the 2011 GF!!!!!: |
|
| Ive said on a few topic that last year Wigan weren't bothered about the cup as it was "a small comp" and we werent bothered about "the hubcap" and now its all changed.
I think the best that can be said is that its an achievement in any year to win the Cup, the League Leaders or the GF and I think that most RL supporters would agree.

| The trophy itself may be worthless in the eyes of opposition supporters, to us it is of greater sigificance as it signifies yet another period of 'progress', it also ends another of these unwelcome records of countless numbers of years we haven't won this, topped that etc.
When other clubs are on the slide, the 'worth' of this is that we are very much on the up.

The Challenge Cup is a major trophy, but a relatively minor one next to winning SL..
The League Leaders Shield is a worthless piece of silverware and always has been. It has always been refereed to as the 'hub cap', I know Saints fans always laughed it off when we won it.
The Grand Final is the big cheese. Warrington fans will change their minds on this once they experience winning it.'"
Saddened, you don't half talk some rubbish. How can the CC be a major trophy and a relatively minor one at the same time? The fact is that there are three trophies to be won, Wigan have one, we have one, and there's one more to be decided on. If Wire haven't won anything, then why are we having a presentation after the game on Friday?

The Cup is one of the three major trophies, of four available. Compared to Super League the Cup is small fry. Simple.
So far Saints have won the World Club Challenge (icon_lol.gif had to) and Wigan the Cup. Third is up for grabs in October.
You won the league leaders shield. It's a massive 4th in the distinction list.
1 - Super League
2 - World Club Challenge (Because it's SL Champ against the best club side in the world and winning that is a MAJOR achievement.
3 - Challenge Cup
4 - League Leaders Shield

| Yup, in RL world the World Club Challenge is definately held in much higher regard than the league leaders shield, for sure.
I don't think Saints have ever recovered from the Roosters humiliation.

Well I can say that I got a zillion times more satisfaction from our wins against Brisbane than I did from LL shields and certainly consider them a greater achievement.
Winning the LL shield and not winning the GF means little really. Of course it is an achievement, but I'd say that it's 4th of 4 available each season.

| I'm quite bemused at the idea that winning the league is seen as nothing. To top the league table you have to be consistent throughout the season, winning more games out of 27 than any other team.
The Grand Final is marketed as THE big prize but it is just another knock-out competition dreamed up by some marketing whizz to rid us of our hard earned cash. And we have all fallen for it. Could you imagine Man Utd or Chelsea being told that finishing top isn't good enough, they have to win another three games to get the big prize and they could get knocked out in the first play-off by mid-table West Brom?

Teams don't even play each other the same number of times at the moment and you get circumstances where teams will rest players in the league because they have bigger games coming up and can afford to (as they know it's play-offs at the ned of the day).
As a result, winning the LL shield, whilst a great achievement, is not "winning the league" as everybody knows that to "win the league" (i.e. Superleague) you need to win the GF.
If everybody played each other the same number of times and started the season knowing finishing 1st takes the prize, then I would agree. But they don't.

Rubbish.....I can't take this pre season knockabout seriously, simply because the Australian club involved never do....Its no more a major trophy than the annual Locker Cup was between Wire and Wigan.
Just because Sky get their knickers in a twist about it doesn't make it a big deal....It seems nowadays that if Sky don't big something up then it must make it worthless, thus, why the Challenge Cup and the FA Cup in football have become devalued by the younger, Sky generation.
I dread when Formula 1 completes its move to Sky Sports....Its already a tedious piece of guff, but once Sky get to grips with it, the hype will become unbearable....

Thought that was the whole point having a squad.... which every team has and utilise to suit their own needs..

| If Warrington win the Grand Final then attention will rightly turn to the obvious elephant in the room.
How have Warrington been able to put together by all indications the best squad in Super League history, and remain under the salary cap?
Funny how Matt King knows when to move on from a club...?

| Hahaha saddo, you have got it. You could rival sall with your tongue in cheek-ness.
However shame you are attracting ppl who 'agree' with your bullsheet!
As others have said, I am very proud that wire have won a very meaningful trophy again this year (unlike hudds, leeds and... Oh yeah st helens) it really shows how far we have come and I can see us keeping it up for a few seasons!
I can see why some teams are jealous (stealing their trophies and being lucky to get third in the table with quite a few points off top) but I am happy wire are back!
Ly all. Better luck next year and in the playoffs.

| I think winning the LLS deserves a little more credit than certain people on here are willing to give. The key to LLS success is Consistancy over the regular season of Superleague,Any one of 8 teams in the playoffs can win the Superleague trophy even if they've been the most inconsistent team in the league! The same goes for the challenge cup.....Cup competitions are knockout competitions and any team can win (allbeit with a bit of luck and/or teams having bad days etc) Yes it would be nice to win the Superleague trophy but if we dont, then im more than happy with the LLS because we won more games than than the rest therefore we are better than the rest.
