| Police regulations. They are only really used - at no expense to the club, as they have to do so by law - for three matches per season - Hull FC, Hull KR and Saints.
The Hull clubs because of Police intelligence sharing and protection of the general public, and Sintelluns because of the sheer amount of people congregated in a public place (ie, the biggest crowd of the season).

I think it's down to the numbers with Salford; as they don't nessercarily bring an excess amount of supporters, the stewards generally have it under control.
Widnes games, however, are covered by Warrington Police, too, but, barring a cup tie, we won't be seeing any of those in the immediate future.

Some good points raises there. I am guessing that Salford bring around the 1k mark or so? Also are the Police intelligence who turn for the games against Hull/KR from Humberside? Something that did go through my mind when I saw this thread, I remember when we used to play you frequently, when getting off at central for games at Wildespool there was a police presence but not a massive amount. However when we came to HJ there seemed to be a shed load, winwick road lined with riot vans. Surely there should have been more of OB presence for the games at W'pool, as there was the mammoth walk down Bridge st and onto the causeway etc. Seemed bizzarre.

No, the club get charged a considerable amount of money for their presence, add to the list salford for this years policing.

The Police requested that the fans remain seperate, one of four games this season that will be enforced by them.

you'd think they'd be keeping hold of all the bricks since their stadium is being done on the cheap* now.

When did this start?
Last year, the Police were doing so out of the interest of Public safety.

they've always charged, it goes up if the crowd goes up over a certain amount or there's concerns expressed about away fans. ie hull fc last year when they smashed places up pre and post match.
police don't do owt for free!

They don't charge the club for it, they do it to prevent such instances, hence why they turn out for specific matches; matches targetted by Cheshire Police as potential risks to public order. Or, so I (we) was told last season by the stadium manager.

Yes they do charge and have always charged for policing, even back at Wilderspool.

There were "issues" last season with a small proportion of their fans, as with this year, plus the Police received intelligence from Hull fans about certain elements coming across after the Wigan game.
It's their call, when they want to Police a game because of potential crowd issues we have to let them or the safety certificate would get revoked.

Again, what we were told was that they would charge for other fixtures, other than those specified.

No, they charge for all fixtures that are Policed, but they bring in extra men which we don't get charged for to cover other eventualities. It's still a hefty bill, which is why most games aren't Policed as the safety needs are met in other ways.

I do. That was GMP and Wendyball, though. I was under the assumption, having been told, that Cheshire Police were the ones who demanded that the specified games were Policed, as they posed a potential threat to public order within an otherwise law abiding situation, and did so at no cost to the club. ALL Chavball matches must be Policed and it is a considerably bigger operation than RL matches, I'd imagine, having been in Wigan (and at Latics matches) on Match days and seen it first hand.
BTS has stated otherwise. I for one am willing to leave it at that, not the biggest thing to debate over, as we have disclosed [iwhy[/i they are Policed, which was the point of the thread.
