Still, I think I could have been a bit harsh on Matt Rodwell, at least he didn't hide from his critics.
I feel he left his position not because the fans wanted out, but almost like he was offering his resignation because he cared??
Sounds strange but how it seems??'"
That would be Matt Rodwell the Dally M Rookie of the Year and player of the year at 2 of his NRL clubs. He was a victim of association with Anderson, being surrounded by a crap team and getting injured at the wrong time. I always feel like sending him when he gets put forward as an example of a crap player. Now Craig Tietzel, that's another story......

| I wonder if Mick Monaghan and Matt King would have been in this list if Paul Cullen and Jimmy Lowes had hung around a bit longer. Maybe if the poor form of the team had continued and they had had a bit more stick then they might have headed home and we would be looking back on them in a different light.
I have mentioned this before but the abuse the players took in Perpignan airport after a hammering against catalan in 2008 was terrible (Mainly the 2 players mentioned above), Just over 12 months later they were tearing Wigan apart to get through to the first CC Final in nearly 20 years and being hailed as gods.
I am shocked nobody has named Craig Tietzel in the list because his name usually crops up in these things even though we nearly won the league with him at Prop.

| Maybe they were tearing Wigan apart in the semi partly because of the stick they were given.

Craig Teitzel??....
I remember him turning up with all the usual Warrington Guardian fanfare, with promises of some Aussie hardman who would rip bits out of defences - What we got was an absolute fairy, who had the running speed of a sloth.
What's amazing is that a side containing him AND John Thursfield managed to finish third, level on points with Wigan and Bradford!!.... Probably ample proof of just how good Jonathan Davies was during that season?

Indeed. Tietzel came with a nickname of 'the butcher'. That sounded good until we realised it was because he'd worked at a butchers shop.

| Rodwell stands out a country mile as the worst player I've seen in wire shirt. The fact he came with a pedigree made it worse and showed his lack of commitment to the cause.
How many origin games and honours did Steve Roach come over with ? That didn't stop him coming over and being a lazy out for an easy pay day when here.

Ah, you beat me to it with Roach. Total waste of space in his time at Wire - a bloke who is on the official list of the greatest 100 Australian players of all time. Most disappointing signing in my time of following Warrington was Roach.

It shows how crazy sport can be at times - How did a team featuring Roach, Les Davidson, Phil Blake, John Woods, Des Drummond, Mike Gregory and half a season of Les Boyd manage to screw up so badly??....

Because they had Roach?
I think that was the season that Open Rugby magazine confidently predicted Wire would be unstoppable - I recall a pic of Peter Higham grinning inanely, flanked by Roach, Davidson & Blake. As you say, sadly, we proved to be, er, stoppable

The only redeeming memory for me from that season was the game at Headingley, when Davidson absolutely tore Leeds apart and made mincemeat of Sam Backo, who gave Roach a run for his money for biggest waste of money for that season....

| Steve Roach was Hyde and Jettle
The laziest I ever saw until we play runcorn highfield away in the cc preliminary game.
He knocked them all over the place to show me the best forward display I ever saw in in primrose and blue.

Was that the game where Davidson could be plainly heard continually shouting, 'Get f***ing Cogger.'?
Canal Street, great memories.

| Rumour has it that when Boydie rejoined that year, he told Roach he was "a disgrace to his country and himself". Roach certainly improved after that but yeah, generally a waste of space.
Davidson, on the other hand, was something of a hero of mine. In fact South Sydney have always been my fave NRL club by virtue of him & Phil Blake playing for them.
