| Quote: The All New Chester Wire "Leeds had Sinfield which meant he could have two half backs like Maguire and Burrow. If we put Grix to 13, then we might get away with Myler and a Burrow style. Might, because I'd prefer a Lockyer style stand off.'"
Sinfield more often than not would switch to hooker during games (before Buderus arrived) rather than be one of the first recievers, don`t forget they have Brent Webb who comes up in attack to be the extra stand off on a fairly regular basis, Mathers tries this but its not really of the same quality.
I was going off what we have at the min squad wise and that we would have to replace Lee Briers at some point, Simon Grix is a strange one. He`s got all the talent in the world and he occasionally shows this touch of class but its not on a consistent basis, he`s certainly not a stand off, he`s very good at attacking the space on the fringes, he also has great footwork.
I think Chris Bridge should be left to one position, part of his problems in the past is he has never been allowed to settle into one position, one minute he probably thinks he has got a regular position and the next he`s moved again. I appreciate the utility side of him to cover for injuries but in the main i would like to see him have a full season in a regular position whether that be right centre or even at 13.
Personally i think we need to sign a quality 13 and a 6 when Lee Briers decides to call it a day, i won`t go into the fullback situation here as thats for another thread.

| If you look at the major sides in SL they had mainly British players in the key positions.
Saints had Martyn/Pryce (6), Long (7), Cunningham (9) and Sculthorpe (13). Leeds have McGuire (6), Burrow (7), Diskin (9) and Sinfield (13).
Warrington could have Grix (6), Myler (7), A.N Other (9) and A.N Other (13). Bridge isn't good enough to be a long term fixture for Warrington IMO. Cheque book central for a young British hooker and loose to set you up with a solid platform for the next decade.

| For me, Matt King has more creativity than Richie Myler (see this weeks League Weekly.)

| In terms of replacing Briers - I'm hoping we won't need to get the cheque book out.
Hopefully Goulding Jr or another of the U20s / 18s will be filling the void. Same with hooker and Holden Jr.
I'd be interested (just to take the thread a little off topic) to know whether people see anyone in the youth set up who could make the step up?

I think Rhys Evans will be the one that we will all be talking about in a year or 2.
he seems to have it all. Future first team fullback in the making.
Good try of his on youtube 'Rhys Evans try'

Is he the blonde lad? IMO he'll be better suited to centre.

| I've been banging on for a couple of years now about Chris Bridge being a loose forward. I can see him holding that position down for a while to come now. Hooking options we have Alex Thompson & Liam Hulme in reserve & I'd be expecting to see those two lining up in the SL squads in a couple of years. Bobbie Goulding Jr & Gaz O'Brien should be given the chance to make progress into 1st team too, but I do wonder if the non-playing of Stefan Ratchford by Salford connected to the fact that Wire may be looking for a young British stand-off in years to come?

| He is plenty good enough - he has the ability to be like Jon Wilkin for Saints, but that upsets the Saints fans

| My humble:
Leave Bridge at centre; his ability to beat a man one-on-one is without peer. His strength lies in focussing on beating the man in front of him and releasing the ball. I don't think he excels when he has a pass selection to make.
Grix: if you wanted a prototype of what a loose forward should be, he is it. Good passing game, tidy kicking game and strong in defence.
This leads me to conclude that we may need to bring an external player to fill the void created by Bryars' departure. I appreciate references to Goulding Jr., but I don't see it at the moment, although I appreciate at that age 12 to 24 months can be a massive period in respect of development.
