For the sake of completeness. Out of 34 competitive games (league and cup);
Goodwin - 28
Tasi - 19
Atkins - 12
Livett - 11
Westwood - 11
Brown - 0
By a strange coincidence, Tasi's number of appearances = the total number of meters gained by him for the whole season. I belive he trained well.

| Things probably a little clearer after last night?
Price mentioning Latu & Widdop could make the Wigan game - but I'm not convinced.
Ashton - Looked the part at Full Back, be interested to see his passing game as his running game looked strong and he looked safe at the back
Charnley
Gelling - Needs to improve his consistency, he seemed to watch Sarginson walk over for Salfords first try but looked good carrying the ball.
King
Lineham
Austin
Ratchford
Hill
Clark
Cooper
Currie
BMM
Hughes
Philbin
Sita
Clark
???
I hope to see Hughes more at 13 this year so we can utilise BMM more, for longer, out wide, Hughes will make a good 13 I think, no nonsense, good engine and solid defensively. Only doubt for me really is the last couple of bench spots. He liked having Mamo on the bench last year so that could continue

Regards 'Sarg try while Gelling seemingly watched'.
Is it worth risking potential injury trying to make a solo tackle to avoid letting in a try in a friendly?

| No inside info but, from what I've read, I'm not expecting to see Widdop, Latu or Hughes make the 17 for next week (may one or more named in the 19).
Ashton, Burrell and Walker have all put themselves in the frame for the Wigan so could well be the team as put forward by Alffi_7 less Hughes plus Burrell and Walker. I'm not sure who would start between BMM, J Clark and Burrell.

It's all on the attitude and yards being gained in the forwards, as our pack has not been strengthened.

It has though, kibula can't be any worse than Tasi and latu is a big unit. Westwood was past his best and hardly played for us and Tasi was crap and hardly played. We have strengthened the pack.

| OT I disagree. We've just rearranged some squad players.

| BMM has to start as far a Im concerned.
Just look at what he did for Tonga when he started.
He's the type of player that needs minutes on the pitch.
I don't like him being used solely as a battering ram.
Him and Currie in the 2nd row.

| BMM and Burrell in second row, currie to 13.tgats what I'd like to see. I really want to see currie moving the ball about again this year. He needs to do what made him so good in the first place, forget what bennett told him about respecting the ball because he has gone now and it's sent currie backwards.

| If Currie is to be back to his best, he is at his most lethal out wide. Agree on BMM, he needs to be playing 60 mins a week at 2nd row.

In that case why make a tackle at all in a friendly, it was no different than any other tackle. Check out the Salford 2nd try, he plainly backs out of it.

| Excited to see this Ashton kid. I think he could be the breakout star of next season. It could well be that Widdop getting injured is a blessing for Warrington as I doubt you'd have played Ashton if he was fit.
As a Saints fan I'm obviously hoping he has a major deficiency like Kevin Penny had that gave him enormous comedy value, but as a fan of the sport we need more stars in the game and hopefully he becomes one.

| The positives from the Salford game are mostly related to the players on the periphery (Ashton, Burrell, Walker and to an extent Johnson). Together with the signing of Latu things are looking a little more positive.
We can only hope that the deficiencies in the style of play are being addressed (there was little evidence last Thursday). Playing Ratchford at halfback, in the absence of Widdop, rather than Patton is a step in the right direction.

Getting a defensive structure to complete that tackle is very different than throwing yourself into a desperate tackle and heightened unnecessary risk.
