There is a Fight Club in Cherbourg. In recent years the fights of that club have been regularly videod. This is another of those with one of the fighters being Chris Sandow.

Maybe this is what he was missing while he was living up here?

Quote: Superted "Someone will no doubt take offence and call racism on this, but, Sandow is following the same path as many young, uber talented aboriginal kids have done in the past) - there's something culturally and socially that seems to impact their ability to focus on their career and professionalism - there are deep routed ties to their local communities, which are usually not the best environment for a professional athlete to thrive, whether that be as a result of behavioural issues or other vices like drink, drugs, gambling.... All something Sandow has struggled with quite publically.

My understanding is that this video is not the result of a dispute, but is actually a pre-arranged 'prize fight' that the locals then gamble on - he's been involved in a few over the last couple of weeks. Pretty common place in the community. Madness.....'"

It's not racism mate. It's the results of a generation of children stolen from their hunter gatherer Aboriginal communities and forced to live in these little Westernised towns and forced to speak English and forced to work for flour and water. A few generations later, these communities have done surprisingly well for themselves considering what they had to go through and the fact their are no jobs and no prospects for many people living in them. But there are still deep lying problems, as you'd expect with a lack of things to do and no money leading to fight clubs, gambling, alcoholism, drug taking and dealing etc.

We both know it's not racism, but unfortunately nowadays it seems you're not allowed to discuss other cultures without someone taking offence on their behalf.

You raise some great points too - one thing I find particularly ridiculous is that there are many of these indigenous communities out in the bush who still don't even have access to electricity. For a country like Australia who claim to be such a forward thinking and advanced nation, its unforgivable that their government have allowed that to continue being the case. There are literally whole communities living without power, like what you'd expect to see in a third world country.

People who look to Australia all misty eyed and who think things are bad in England would do well to think about that! They might have immigration policies that many people would prefer, but their infrastructure in general is terrible.

That was Tom Goode's generator from popular TV sitcom The Good Life, circa 1975

It ran on pig pooh

Let-off with a fine.

Not sure if this disqualifies him playing in the NRL, or not?

So involved in a charity boxing match and a street brawl, I wonder what sort of "conflict resolution " he will be a spokesman for?

So is he returning to France.....??

The former Parramatta and South Sydney half-back, who in November walked out of Warrington halfway through a two-year contract, avoided a conviction after he agreed to magistrate Andrew Hackett's unorthodox request that he become a community spokesman for conflict resolution in Cherbourg.

Weird judgment

Interesting piece where the magistrate tells him to be like Thurston (!), then he behaves like some sort of big kid and sneaks out of the back door of the courtroom.

It's all very sad is all I can say about it.
Dissapointed for him.
I hope he can do a Robert Downey Jr.
There's a waste of talent there.

I guess the whole Sandow story is just a reminder that when you sign a player who has shown repeated patterns of problem behaviour in the past, you have to go in to it with a realistic expectation that you know what is coming and are prepared to manage it.

Sometimes risks pay off but you can't be surprised if you end up seeing the same problems.
