| Pleased for Lee plus it's good to get it sorted out early in the season. He has deserved the deal to be fair. Briers had been outstanding at times under the Lord Tony Smith.

Best place for all stains players incorporated into a wall

It would fall down if they used the current players.
Lee is quoted on Sporting Life saying he turned down 2 year deals with other Super League teams to stay near Saddened!. I wonder who the other interested parties were?

| Quote: Saddened! "You cannot be serious?
Keiron Cunningham won around 19 trophies (I'm just guessing there) and is no doubt Saints most decorated player.
Lee Briers has won 2 Challenge Cups. Even by Warrington's history I'm sure that isn't all that special, I'm sure there have been players who have won multiple league titles and multiple Challenge Cups. (Late 40s to early 50s Warrington were pretty dominant)
Doing something like that for Briers now would have been like Saints doing one for Bobbie Goulding or Karle Hammond.
Maybe you could wait until Lee has coached the Wire to a couple of Super League titles?'"
Not one to do this by choice, but to draw a football analogy.
Gary Neville has won 90000000 trophies with United.
Matt Le Tissier won nothing with Southampton
Who was the better player? Le Tissier turned down moves to a bigger club and became a legend at the club he gave his career to (despite winning f'all). Imagine, if after ten years, he was still there. After years of being crap, the team are no longer w*nkey. That's what Briers has. Eastmond will never have this, neither will Graham.
If you wish to compare the impact the two players have had on the respective teams, I'm not sure which side I'd come down on. Again, if you wish to argue who is/was the better player, I'd probably go with KC. But please, please the argument has to be more intelligent than number of medals, surely.
So to summarise; There is no doubt that the team KC played in was a great team, second only to the Wigan one that caused me so much angst in my teenage years. Both were full of quality players who were surrounded by quality players. But Briers had something extra, he was good even in a poor team. I'm going to stick my neck out here and say he is probably the third best player I've seen play while watching Warrington.

| As a fan was introduced during and watched the height of Bullmania (early 2000s). I think a lot of people like me and maybe some others (considering how long Briers ahs been here) are taking for granted how good he really is. I could be well off but I, like, I believe Yed, and several others, contend that he has the best rugby brain in Super League and will really be missed when the time comes for him to move on. I can't think of anyone who could slot into the team and replace Briers.

good post. FB was stating his significance and devotion to a club, the side's success (or lack of) is irrelevant, KC would still have been a ST H great had they not won the titles that he had, he led the side and gave his career to the club, the difference here is that KC was from StH, wheras Lee was from, er, St Helens not Warrington, but we recognise Brian Bevan as a Wire great and he wasn't a Warringtonian ever. So I am in favour of recognising Lee's efforts, but not for a while yet, let's just recognise his efforts from the stands for now and give him a song on Sunday?

| I'm all for recognising Lee's achievements during his time at the club, but the building of a statue, is a tad over the top (imo). Let's not forget, Lee's alleged poor attitude at times, as well as his errr drinking exploits. Not including the abuse he's had to take from the terraces, pre Tony Smith. People's opinions don't half change quick, after a couple of trophies. Lets just appreciate Briers' skills and leave it at that, eh.
After all, where's the statue for John Bevan?
The memorial wall for Parry Gordon?
The naming of a road for Alex Murphy?
The stand named after Clarrie Owen
The naming of the stadium after Peter Deakin?
All pivotal figures of our club in the last 40 years

| To clarify Saddened's point; the statue was based upon a poll. It wasn't a homage to Cunningham, specifically. I'm still bemused how Cunningham secured more votes than Murphy or Karalius.

Didn't you know, GDMM, all what's happening now (or in the last few years) is all that matters, not old fogies like Murphy/Karalius
After all, in some recent poll, Cheryl Cole is one of the great musical icons of the last 100 years, and David Beckham is a better footballer than, Pele, Maradonna, Best, Cruyff and Carlton Palmer well ever be . Polls, who needs 'em (no jokes about cheap European labour, please )

Because people have short memories and the people most likely to vote in these things would generally be of a younger age.
Anyway, Briers is irreplaceable and the new contract puts that problem further away in the future. I would bet he also appreciates the success we are having far more than anyone at the club.

Because Cunningham was allowed to vote 1000 times due to the fact that he is the size of 1000 people...
