| I would like to see Kev Penny have a good run in the first team at Warrington next season. He needs games to improve his defence at super league level. This is something that wont happen over night, keep him at Quins it will do him the world of good.
Also you cant compare Penny to the likes of Brian Bevan and Martin Offiah, the game has progressed light years since then and any comparisons would be unfair on all.

| Quote: magic piano "Every time the discussion about Kev Penny comes up the issue of his defence is raised - I bet these same people would have been criticising Brian Bevan or Martin Offiah for being a bit weak in the tackle. What is a winger for FFS? How many players in SL, never mind at Warrington, make you stand up with anticipation when the ball gets into their hands with half a gap, no a quarter gap, in front of them? Chris Riley has done fantastically well this season, but does your heart pause when he gets the ball? Do you stretch up half an inch in height in the South Stand when Matt King has the ball to see him do something that will take your breath away? No. And yet rugby fans all over the country anticipate something when Kev Penny has the ball - not always does he deliver but when he does it is something to tell the grandchildren "I was there" - when he scored at Saints, when he skinned Gidley, Gardener & Wellens at Knowsley Road, the time he left Ashton on the floor at the HJ, goose-stepping away from Paul Reilly, the list goes on.
Was going to write something similar but whay bother when you can write this.
I never understood whay he was in the U20's he wasnt learning anything and is too good for that level. My mates at Widnes all want him back; he is too good for that level.
He asked the club if they wanted to sell him in the winter and the answer was no. So I can only assume Smith sees a future. With Hicks getting on I still belive he can make it as a SL winger hopefully with us.
As has been said on here his delence isnt as bad as many make out, I would have no problems seeing him on our teamsheet soon.
Kev Penny is an exceptional talent, he puts bums on seats, he excites people. And people would have him out of the club because he's a bit suspect in the tackle. Martin Offiah went hiding when the opposition had the ball & 500 tries says he wasn't a bad winger...'"

| Penny was class for us last year it was a real shame he got recalled for that one game you guys had before the cup final (though obviously justified because you won the final!). He formed a great partnership with Craig Hall. His defence wasn't a problem and his enthusiasm was infectious towards the rest of the team and the fans.
I'd have him at Widnes anyday, now and if we get in in a couple of seasons time.

| He has always looked dangerous against saints and has scored some really good tries against us, I remember a cup match at Knowsley Road when he scored a couple.
And his try saturday was well taken.
His problem is that his head goes down after one mistake.
I would swap Ade Gardner for him tommorrow.

| Penny is a very exciting player to watch and has scored some spectacular tries but if you were to swap him for reilly (for example) you would be weakening the team rather than strengthening it.

| Dont see how to be brutally honest...
Riley lacks the pace and attacking prowess of Penny... and has still come up with some handling errors that have lead directly to opposition tries.... Riley is simply a steady winger like the David Hodgsons of the world
Penny all day long for me.... he isnt going to get worse he is only going to get better...and its scandalous that its going to be at another club just because Jimmy lowes dropped him when he had no other ideas left in his empty head....
Like Ive said before We are willingly accepting Mathers Mistakes (approx 30 points for the opposition id wager) weve made calamity Matt King a super hero now after 7 decent games..... so its just a chapter of shame on the clubs and some fans part as regards to kevin Penny in my opinion.

| I've been pro-Kev since the day he scorched down the wing at Headingley, and I still am to this day. In fact, it still makes me sad that by the time I'd got to the clubshop all those bloody 'catch me if you can' t-shirts had gone. If I had one, I'd wear it in support at every match. As it is, I haven't seen one for years so come on all you t-shirt owners, ger'rum out, wear your Penny with pride.
Anyhow, back to him ... My only sort of negative about him is purely £££'s. I haven't a clue what he earns, not a clue. My mind says that he'll be on a decent screw as he signed a deal when he was the hottest property in RL, and since Offiah. So lets say for example he's on £45k a year. Now, I don't know what £45k gets you, but if it gets you a good standard SL player that Smith would like at Warrington then I think we have to lose him, ie, somebody that could just slot straight in immediately. If it gets you a sort of half decent, he could do a job player then I'd rather keep Penny as a sort of investment if you like, as his potential is massive, and that potential could be one day realised so it's worth persisting if that makes sense.

| We can all sit here starry eyed and recall pennys tries in a team that underachieved and won nothing.
The bottom line is Tony Smith has worked with him up close for over a year now and has deemed him not good enough for the first team... he has not been hounded out by the supporters... he has been moved out on loan by the coach because he doesn't appear to feature in his immediate plans.
People on here are going on about Mathers/ Rileys mistakes.... they mean absolutely nothing.. all players make mistakes. Riley is our leading try scorer and Mathers is easily the best fullback at the club... Some people seem to be of the opinion that 'riley makes as many mistakes as penny.. so he should play because he is faster'..... its not a 100m race is a game of rugby league.
The bottom line is Penny isn't deemed good enough for the first team squad.

I'm one of coopers biggest fans... but i had no arguments with him going out on loan.
With Morley, Carvell, the new Wood and Solomona.. there was no place for him in the first team squad... Carvells injury now means Cooper will be recalled.
If Riley broke his ankle do you think Penny would be re-called and put into the first team squad again?

| No I think He's finished at the club regardless of his performance.....I watched the Boy Williams when He got a start (ahead of Penny) he was visibly nervous visibly ordinary and quite clearly not ready for Superleague. so if Riley is ever out long term we can look forward to a centre playing on the wing and a second rower playing centre.
I did liked the bit about Penny being in a team that underachieved and won nothing.....
Where were you between 1992 and 2008.......?
because there's a long long long long list of players underachieving and winning ab-so-lute-ley nothing for you to thumb through.....

| Tony Smith is due to appear Paul Wood's fans forum on Thursday night. Kevin Penny might be an interesting point for discussion at that...

watching a team that underachieved and won nothing.... whats your point?
Is it that, according to my way of thinking, ALL players that played in teams from 1992 to 2008 are not good enough for the current team?

| Why all the assumptions that Penny is finished at the club other than for comments by Eddie/Stevo and Chariots O'flannel on Sky. Are Cooper, McCarthy, Blythe, Mitchell also finished?
Here's hoping its just to get him superleague fit and aware without the HJ booboys on his back.

| I dont think he is finished at the club.
I think he needs to improve a few aspects of his game until he can be in contention for a first team spot... After watching his lackluster displays for the under 20's (i imagine its hard to get motivated when you have come all the way down from SL hat-tricks and dream team selection), its obvious that's not how he is going to improve. Regular SL starts is the only way its going to happen.
The fact that he has moved away from his young baby and mrs shows his determination to make the most of this chance.... Hopefully a good spell at quins will see him come back an improved player, in contention for a first team place again.
