| Quote: Monmouth Wire "The other thing that became apparent to the private sector is that if you bundled a number of PFi schemes together you could go to the banks and renegotiate the repayment terms of these re-bundled assets (some have renegotiated and received as much as £270mill from the banks - money which could have been used to build more hospitals) '"
Couple of points here - re-financing of PFI deals is done once the risky element of the contract eg the build is completed successfully and therefore banks were willing to lend the money at lower rates. All recent PFI deals (eg last few years) are set up so that the local authority of NHS Trust benefit just as much if not more by the re-financing and hence the money is put back into the provision of more schools and helath facilities. Like with the apprenticeship things you do have some good ideas but you are generally at least a couple of years behind the government when it comes to implementing them.

I can't remember the Tories having a weaker ideology at election time or fighting a more uncoherent campaign, it is amazing to watch it unfold, they have got poor leadership and I expect deep repercussions in time. The last three elections they have been hammered by a landslide, but I bet if you brought back any of those leaders (Major, Hague or Howard) to lead the Tories now, they would at least have come with a more organised message.'"
I agree, its quite frightening, considering they seem odds-on to actually win this election.
Even their own supporters must be a bit bemused by this latest 'policy', so how they expect to entice the 'don't know's' or the 'never-voted Tory befores', I really can't see.

The thing is, these set-back clauses were put in once a few of these deals were re-negotiated ......... it's not too much to have hoped that some brainiac at the centre would have figured that out before all this stuff was rolled out. It was obvious to me back then when I was involved in it so I would like to think I was a couple of years ahead of them if you don't mind.

I sensed a lot of 'pandering to the left' with the bit about the homeless in his broadcast. I think the reporter on Channel 4 said "Cameron was making sure his Party held centre ground in the election campaign".

| The thing i hate about the majority of politicians at the moment is that they don't stand out, they are terrified of offending people and offer nothing in terms of character or leadership.
Love her or hate her Thatcher had the courage of her convictions and wasn't afraid to upset people to get her policies through that she thought were for the greater good. (This is not an endorsement of her policies more her strength before i'm taken to task on the subject)
I'm not so much bothered which party gets in, i just want actual 'Leadership'

Cameron was just following the Tommy Carcetti election campaign model by using the "homeless" ticket.

Think Italy and Germany in the 1920s and 1930s. It DOES matter which party gets in.

I take it you mean definitive direction as opposed to leadership?

| I do think we are actually seeing more ideological differences than I expected.
