Waiting for the 2021 RLWC:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_18764.gif

Bit of an over-reaction here. We spent far too much time in yesterday's game kidding ourselves that the sun was out, the pitch was bone dry and the stakes were low. That we managed a portion of the match playing the right style for the conditions (just as Leeds did for 80 minutes) shows this was the players, not the coach. I don't fall into the camp that Price should keep his job here automatically for another season. But if he is simply sacked because we fail to win the GF where do we get our next coach? Price himself seems to have, to some degree, got this job because we couldn't find anyone better. Do we want to be in the same boat again?

If we can waste money on a retired Aussie superstar, then I'd suggest that, if we tried hard enough, we could get a better coach than Price in??....

I tend to agree that this board has a tendancy to go over board and fairly quickly. Our poor start it was the Price isn't right. Our winning streak was probably over hyped and the Cup defeat sees us back to our early season pessimism

Champagne to Pomagne in 80 minutes.

Did we make a mess of it yesterday undoubtedly but I think that its fair that the coach and team are judged when our season is over not on a game by game basis

I don't think anyone is suggesting getting rid of Price at this exact moment. However, some are quite rightly suggesting that if at season's end we are trophyless, then it is time to move him on, as 3 years is ample time to have brought SL success and that it would be time to find an alternative.

I keep seeing who would we replace Price with, what about Anderson. When the Giants got shot of him the squad he had was mostly injured if I remember, he seems to be doing well with the youngsters, just a thought.

So that's 3 losses out of 7, and a penalties win. WOW. Hardly the stuff of greatness, yet, at the SPOTY awards, Southgate is announced Coach of the Year. For what? At the same time Guardiola's City break record after record. Its as if the British/English psyche regards winning as a dirty word.
Look at some of Britain's success stories over the years, and they're pilloried by the media. Steve Davis, Nick Faldo, Nigel Mansell, Chris Eubank etc. All fantastic at their jobs, yet we make celebrity out of Eddie the Eagle, a bumbling Bruno, a crying Gazza
'"

Sums up the Warrington mentality too. We had an open top bus parade after losing the Challenge Cup final in 1990.

We beat Featherstone, Trafford, Bradford and Oldham on the way to the final then got our s spanked by Wigan, and we had an open top bus parade. Wire fans of a certain vintage get misty eyed with nostalgia about that final, "Dessie broke Kevin Iro's jaw" they will say.

Wire fans will also mythologise the team of the mid/late 80s, which only won the Premiership and the Lancashire Cup, while moaning bitterly into their pint glasses about how Wigan 'ruined the game'. Ask any Wire fan of that era about players like Edwards, Hanley, Bell, Offiah and their reaction will be snide sneering rather than recognising these guys for having the relentless mindsets or outrageous talents that made them winners.

"Wigan were the only ones who were full-time" they will claim, as though that was the only difference. Rarely is it mentioned that because they were involved in the latter stages of every tournament, they usually had to fight the title run-in by playing 3 games a week, without the large squads and ability to rotate like today, and still managed to win.

You can see that mentality today with some of the threads on here.

At some point every season, we have some variation of the theme "selection headache - how do we fit all our greats in the team" icon_lol.gif Last week there were people saying Tom Lineham will struggle to get back in to the side. Well if he was available and fit, I would have certainly wanted him in a game like yesterday because he's produced in big games.

When any of our players sign a new contract, there's lengthy fawning on here about "great news for the club, we're looking well set for the future". The question to ask when you see one of our players re-signing, is would Wigan or Saints have wanted to sign him? I bet you will rarely be able to honestly say yes.

There was a thread a couple of weeks ago discussing whether Ratchford was our greatest ever signing of the Super League era. Nothing against Ratchford who is a fine player in any era, but if we're discussing him as our greatest signing, it sums up the difference between us and clubs like Wigan, Leeds and Saints.

The other irony, is amongst the readiness to overhype many of the "nearly men" who play for Wire, there's a refusal to acknowledge how good Lee Briers really was.

Price isn't good enough. Nothing to do with yesterday's game. Thought before the kick off with the weather it was going to be a bit of a lottery so not blaming him for yesterday but this is a very good squad and they look clueless in the opposition 20 metre area. A good coach would have this squad battering the league.

There were a couple (maybe one but one is enough) comments after the semi-final draw on here. They were commenting on how good the draw was...not because Salford were the lowest league placed team left in the draw but because if we lost the semi it would be ok as it would be nice for Salford to get to Wembley. What kind of nonsense is this? We need to get ruthless and brutal as a club.

I honestly think if we had signed Holbrook when he was available instead of seeing the season out with Smith we would have won it. If saints had then signed players price he would have gone before this season started too, no way they would accept the play we had last season and the season before no matter how many finals it got us to.

I actually don't think its a bad thing that price has stayed maybe he has learnt as a coach and is now preferring an expansive style. I've really enjoyed watching us again recently aside from yesterday. I'd been bored and pretty fed up with wire for a fairly long time before that. I hope we win it this year I really do but Wigan, saints, Leeds and Catalans won't be pushovers.no guarantee we will make the playoffs nevermind win the final. If we don't finish top 4, it's time for a change, straight away. No messing will we, won't we. The very next day gone and the search can start. I'd like us to have candidates lined up now to be honest so the phone calls can be made straight away. Anderson and Henderson should definitely be in the frame though and also Watson.

It's a funny one this. I want warrington to win every game and I am disappointed when we suffer a defeat especially when we are probably the biggest spenders. I am realistic enough to realise that even the greatest teams get beat every now and then.
We should have won the challenge cup in 18 and I was gutted that we didn't but trying to find a silver lining to that cloud was that I was glad an expansion team won it so that the game in France would grow.
I love the game of RL and wish that every every school had a rugby pitch rather than a football pitch and that the kids were throwing a rugby ball around rather than kicking a football.
If Salford winning the Cup means that 100 kids in Manchester / Salford decide to take up RL then great.
That doesn't necessarily mean that if you think like that you are accepting mediocrity. You can be bloody annoyed at what is going on at your own club whilst still wishing Salford the best of luck.

In terms of Price I was vexed that the club extended his contract in year 1.Just getting to finals is not good enough. If somebody had come to me in May 2008 and said that over a 12 year period we would visit wembley 6 times, won 4 times and got to the GF 4 timesI would probably have taken it but with the money that has been spent and the players we have had we should have had more.
For me Price has 7/8 weeks left and if he lifts the big one then great but if we fall short then he can go along with Fitzpatrik.
The bottom line is that with the money spent then by the end of this year we should have won more than one CC final out of a possible 6 major trophies no excuses or reasons.

So we're to sack a coach who gets us to two finals the year after playing in the middle eights?? No. Maybe at this point, but then, that was a reward for the immense improvement he'd made to the club from 2017. If we sacked every coach for not winning the big one in their first year then we'd find out pretty quickly that nobody would want or take the job! Ludicrous.

Ironically, all our tries yesterday came from within the opposition 20.

In that game we lost, not enough scored though. Leaving yesterday aside as like I said conditions were terrible. The shift from side to side is very slow and we look a bit clueless of how to create a try often resorting to a kick in the air on the 5th. Compare that to a few years ago when we could score for fun in those situations.

I'm certainly no coaching expert, but the reason for our attacking problems near to the line are blatantly obvious - our attacking line is simply too shallow. Players receive the ball stood still, meaning it almost inevitably turns into a game of pass the parcel and it makes it easy for the opposition defence.

If you watch any half decent NRL side you will see the angles that their centres and back rowers run and are almost always run from deep. It baffles me that Price has come from that league and seems unable to coach that into our players. With players with either the size or speed of the likes of BMM, Currie, Gelling and King, not being able to utilise them properly near the line is almost criminal. Throw in the fact we have 2 marquee half backs and you have to wonder what exactly Price and his staff are doing in training?
