| It was a bizzarre post from you though 'ditch', why would a group playing as a band constituate being 'childish' or 'not grown up'?!
Do you dislike drumming/songs being sung at games and consider it not grown up?

Quote: the flying biscuit "Raymond is spot on I remember when a male voice choir did pre match entertainment for one game at the HJ and were soundly booed when they sang you'll never walk alone.
to my mind in the 80's we were the only rugby fans to sing that.....
We roared it out at the final whistle at Wembley in 1990 so much so Alex Murphy in the commentary said Listen to the wigan fans cheering their victorious team....!! it was sung on numerous occasions throughout the 86 Premiership final......
happy days.....
the last good song we had was the Langer song ....'"
widnes sung this in the 70s early 80s even at wembley
starts around 1min 45

| Rose tinted specs I think from the OP. In the late 70's early 80's there was a lot of alchohol fuelled anger on the terraces, and back then you could still change ends at half time. Other chants came from the lovely Warbo and often contained references to Gary Conolly and a bag of sweets.
AG AGR etc, It's a long way to Central Station, Everywhere we go-oh etc. Plus there was no originality either.
I've probably said this before but I always imagined the "barmy Army" of the day sat round in a pub discussing this subject.
"I've heard this song in the charts right by Chickory Tip called "Son of the Father". It's a poingiant insight into the discussion that despite cultural environments, technological advences, your basic characteristics and behavioural patterns are genetically set and passed down - moulded, folded and freeze farm dried if you will. we could use that in the Fletcher end".
"Marvellous my man, have you come up with some suitable witty lyric to portray this masterpiece?"
"Well yes as it happens -Oh warry warry .......warry warry ....warry ..... warry ... Warring...ton".
"Fantastic, who's round is it?".

| Our "songs" are rubbish, and aside from the odd "WIRES WIRES WIRES" chant and the Wembley songs in the latter rounds of the Cup I don't join in with any of them, unless I've been drinking and its a big game which occassionally sees me get carried away.
The only good song in the whole of rugby league that doesn't belong to Leeds United first and foremost though, is Old Faithful.

I've never really understood why "Warrington Warrington Warrington" never gets sung to that tune to be honest.
It's as easy as you can possibly get but can round rousing if the whole crowd are belting it out.

| Heard a Ryan Atkins song yesterday, Liverpool sing it about Maxi. A few people singing it yesterday.
"Ryan, oh Ryan Atkins runs down the wing for me, der der der der"
To the tune of 'Heartbeat'

| I think "One Paul Darbyshire, their's only one Paul Darbyshire" is a very appropriate song for the next home game. RIP

hear, hear! That would be a good one, a true star of the 80's/early 90's.

Knew that about 'every other saturday'!
Problem is now, every time United/Liverpool/Everton or any other NW club's fans come up with a half decent effort, that is slightly original, everyone else jumps on board, and creates their 'ill fated version'! That Heartbeat one the scousers came up with this year, will be heard at most top flight football grounds next season, and the HJ !
Nobody with any class, originality or wit. poor!
PS Dropkick, like the sig!

Assuming that St Helens don't race into a 30 point lead by half time, there'll be a cracking atmosphere on Friday. It's nowt to do with the singing or the stadium, it's the opposition (and fans) and the closeness of the match.
