Hang on ... it is only Sir Cat who picked about 5 to drop. No way would I do that. That is not called for and
even old Cat backed off on that one after a bit of thought.

firstly, i appreciate the uptitling.
and whilst i did back track on it, the point remains that those players in my opinion are deffo the top picks for kicks up the .
having thought about this for a while, something else i'll bring up, everyone was ranting and raving about that 17 minutes vid of the first meeting, how he was laying the law down and it was ace, he mentioned about changing structures, calls on the field and challenging the players, wanting them to go with him (i wonder if this section was released on purpose?) the play on field, and the comments recently suggest that this hasn't bedded in as well as he made made/hoped.
Also, i'm wondering if what he's alluding to, was trying to change the way we play to fit the personnel we've got, you can't play a power game without big bodies (stay with me) so he's trying to implement a more mobile way of shifting opposition defences around, we're all pretty pee'd off at philbin not running straight, and on those arcing lines, cooper was doing it in the league game v wakey as well. i wonder if some of the players aren't buying in to that, and just reverting to whatever.
just a thought. might explain some of the disjointed play and the lack of effort in defence, which has been shocking this last couple of weeks.

This is what I'd convinced myself of, over the winter, especially when it became apparent we weren't signing another prop. I'd still like to believe it, but my faith in it eroded quite quickly, even as early as the Wigan friendly.
I do believe the players aren't buying into his game plans, whatever they may be. It's going to take time and I hope he's given that time to implement his plans and weed out the players that aren't complying.

| I am with you FMC. To add to that I think Darryl Clark has been asked to play a different game. I think he has been told that if there is a quick play the ball instead of jumping out of DH to get the ball wide quickly. Somebody posted the wakefield tackle stats for their forwards in another thread and it was half what our forwards were doing (yes I know we are light in the pack) but there is a definite move to get the ball out wide quickly.
I hope it is this rather than players being vexed because they have to stand up in front of the group and read a chapter of a book. When things aren't going great then players tend to try and solve the problems on their own rather than collectively. You can see that from the vid of the wakey try that was posted. Lots of players trying to solve problems from the moment Mulhern shot out and currie didn't and Davis didnt get across from marker.
One thing for sure it will be interesting to see how it all ends up but the players are not covering themselves in glory at the moment.

Good call, and I did wonder this myself, whether we were going to try and move bigger teams around and burn some juice. Not seen it so far, in fact our diminutive forwards have an unerring knack of heading back into heavy traffic rather hitting defenders two out from the ptb where they might have a chance of a tackle bust, quick ptb or offload.

Had a quick flick through it. Says team are at stage of ‘conscious competence’ like where you’ve just learned to drive, so you can do it but you really have to think about it and it’s easy to get things wrong under pressure. Looking for them to get to ‘unconscious competence’ like someone who’s been driving for 20 years, doesn’t have to think about it and can deal with all manner of issues on the road.
Just hope it doesn’t take 20 years

| From Powelly's post match comments it sounds like a sprinkle of cognitive dissonance too.

| Quote: Barbed Wire "Not sure the club would be concerned, his team missed the play offs last year, and they still assessed that he was a good appointment. This year, despite the free fall, is more successful than last given the cup run.
As fans go, I think pressure will build on Powell, as I’ve said previously. From the end of the Smith era, there has been frustration re
My position hasn’t changed on this. The recruiters can’t be surprised to see this happen, Powell and his teams have tendencies to blow hot and cold, and our fans expect a better team that the one we had last year, and rightly so given the continued investment.
We need to arrest this momentum and get a win, at whatever cost. But (from a qualified opinion, as I didn’t go last night) the players don’t seem to have that steel needed to just dig in a nick a win.
Powell needs to set direction now. With the players, not hanging them out in the media and having a pint with fans. He needs to get the players on side and get them on his team.
Jury’s out. Tough month coming up if we don’t snap this spiral

| This is a very important time for Powell. From his repeated comments about the culture at the club there is clearly a problem which needs addressing. What happens between now and May 1 could be very interesting. There are several notable first team regulars who from that date will be free to talk to other clubs. To the best of my knowledge since Powell was appointed the club has resigned King Ashton and Walker leaving the rest with uncertain futures.
The fact that Powell has continually commented on the culture problem and lack of mental strength indicates to me that this is something the board are aware of and are fully supportive of him. He needs to be able to build his own team and in the meantime we need to dial down the rhetoric and let his do the job he has been appointed to do. This may mean missing out on the playoffs and being subjected to derision from the knuckleheads from St H but we need to hold our collective nerve and trust in the club

Exactly. Let Powell do his job. It's not like we are missing anything. Last 3 years we did nothing in the playoffs in any case. We have a good honest coach who wants to sort the issues out. We will bottom out soon and then can watch the rebuild.

No need for a tin hat plenty will agree with your points.
If you can face going back to the beginning of the thread it's quite interesting that concerns were raised then that are manifesting now.
A losing coach and team will always be under pressure we've an expectation to deal with and Powells browny points have been earned elsewhere.
At the start of the season I wasn't planning for a write off but if we can ultimately break the recent cycle of under performance by Price and the last days of Smith and try something new then so be it
