Cheers Alffi and St Helens Wolf it makes sense and potentially good reading. If as reported we are still paying part of his salary and St Helens Wolf right, we can use Russell's cap space for a reinforcement if he heads off to Barton.
We might be down on squad numbers, but, we must have some decent earners taking us up to or close to our limit? Although reading between the lines, Charnley was our previous cap space and now that's transferred to what we were paying Russell?

So in general, they're encouraging super league teams to sign past their best 'has beens' back to the code. Stick to what we know I suppose!

We thought this was the case, apparently there was an amendment last year to the above rulings and we've made use of that in order to sign charnley.

"We’ve also relaxed the rules regarding returning talent because I found it strange that when I came into this role there were some high-profile ex-rugby league players in union who wanted to come back but couldn’t because of our rules and regulations. That’s strange. We want some of those players returning.”

Think he’s talking there about the 100% dispensation for RU players who have never played RL and the 50% dispensation for players who have been out of the game for more than 5 years? (Which Charnley doesn’t qualify for) Are we saying that there was an amendment to that since allowing the signing of Charnley? Would be interested to read that - doesn’t appear in the operating rules last time I checked? Any news article link?

| If you consult fans of other clubs you’ll find that the salary cap doesn’t in fact apply to Warrington anyway. Apparently we are over it every season. That’s good to know isn’t it? Gives us a bit more freedom to recruit.

By my reading the HDPGS can override the 5 years restriction at their discretion for a "returning talent pool player".
