Exactly.

Warrington Wires would be a stupid name. Wire/Wires is our nickname and probably the second strongest traditional nickname in RL after Saints because even most opposition fans refer to us as that, but our name is Warrington RLFC.

Wolves means nothing to me and never has.

What's with all the negativity towards salford? We should be pleased they have a rich backer that is doing everything he can to drag them up and re-brand them. There is a smack of arrogance how some of us are talking about other clubs, not to long ago we were a struggling club and hated the arrogance of wigan fans etc..

Unless you're a kid I don't think it has to. They'll always be the Wire to me but when I take 77 Junior to the game in a couple of years, I expect it'll be easier to get him engaged with a man in a wolf costume than the match.

As for Red League, I recall him behaving exactly like he is now the last time Salford were going to be millionaires spunking cash like it's going out of fashion. I'm sure Mr Koukash will put Salford in a much better position than they have been previously, but it's a bit rich (pun intended) to arrogantly call people arrogant. I have no beef with Salford at all - good luck to them.

I have a beef with Salford's ground. It's in a really far flung destination that takes ages to get to on the bus from Manchester. The tram ride to Weaste was much quicker and more convenient.

Anyway leaving the puerile 'my dad is bigger than yours' bickering to one side, what do people think to the name change?

Smart move for mine, will generate plenty of publicity and help the club identify with Mancunians, without abandoning the Salford name. The only problem I can see is that the vast majority of people probably don't realise that Salford were the original red devils and will see it as nicking the name from that soccer club whose name escapes me. That could potentially alienate supporters of the blue soccer club.

For what it is worth I think Warrington reverting to RLFC/Wire/Livewires would be a ridiculous move. Just because people don't shout 'Wolves' on the terrace doesn't mean it is a failiure, it gives the club a strong corporate brand which is well recognised. A big 'W', a bit of wire or the borough coat of arms doesn't have the same effect. Wolves also makes it a lot easier in terms of merchandise, and as others have said attracting kids etc. It's not like it was picked at random based on alliteration either like with other clubs, it is relevant to the town and club.

Leave Red League alone, he's excited and frustrated at the same time about salford's development.

It'll all come together when the retail units and Casino get built next to the ground..

speaking of beefs with salford and fans that are wangs. Enfield Exile never made a return to on here after their stadium was built, he was obsessed with how big our floodlights were and was adamant theirs would be bigger .

Are you seriously trying to suggest that the 'good' doctor is primarily involved with Salford RLFC for anything other than an interest in Rugby League? His Palesinian/Liverpudlian upbringing makes his affinity with Les Diables Rouge completely understandable...and of course' convenient' for other opportunities?

BTW I think it's quite interesting and good for the game in general that someone's potentially mixing it up

Correct again DM.

As for the Salford name change. I don't think it'll make a bit of difference to them.

I'd love to see a strong Salford team with a big crowd behind them. A successful team and good marketing may achieve this but not a name change.

Good old EE. Some sensible comments in there if you can look past the bile (which admittedly was difficult). He's got more issues than Alan Partidge has of WhatCar magazine.

As for the nickname, I think it's a smart move. Gives them something to market - cuddly devil has to be better than a bloke dressed up as a firework - and allows them to re-launch themselves properly. Mr Koukash wants trophies next season so they'd better get their finger out with recruitment which, by all accounts, they are. Getting rid of talentless goons like McGoldrick would be a start.

can someone tell me the average attendance figure at Wilderspool in the last year versus the attendance figure at the HJ in the first season? How does it compare with the Salford move from the Willows to the City Stadium?

That helps to reinforce what I was thinking we put 2859 extra supporters on the gate whilst they put on 749, most of whom are probably lost already.

Warrington then have put on another 1500ish due to winning trophies.

Does Salford have the desire for the game?

I couldnt understand why in a crowd of just over 5,000 on Sunday which is considerably less than our crappy Days at wilderspool the Salford fans chose to sing #"where were you when you were pooh"# ???

maybe when they win the double next season in front of 5,000 fans we can sing #"where are you now your superb"#
