| Quote: Roddy B " Would I swap our LLS for their GF place? Of course not, but if I was told last season that we'd reach the GF, I'd have been fairly chuffed and would have viewed that season as a success.'"
Agree entirely mate, as that would be a sign of our progress. But if you were to then tell me that we would lose the next 4 grand finals after that in a row I would probably slit my wrists.

| As you are either drunk or mentally deficient I will answer what I can (the rest appears to be a rambling rant)
Quote: Back Row Singer "I thought you lot more than anyone would have worked out by now that the Super League is a knock out competition that starts in September. Yes, the LLS is a fantastic achievement but unforunately (for you last season) the Grand Final is the sport's major showpiece event. All the media-hype surrounding it, the title of 'Super League Champions', it is the big one. So for those who tried to argue that last year was 'your year' by winning the LLS, sorry, it wasn't. Prime examples, who were the SL Champions in 2007 and 2008? Saints won the LLS on both occassions.'"
Waffle and has no relevance to either the initial query regarding the chant, nor the sub-discussion over whether Saints have declined. SCRAP IT! You make yourself sound moronic.
Quote: Back Row Singer "The amount of hype surrounding Warrington's GF chances around March time over the past 3 or so seasons is incredible. Some by supporters, mostly by the media. But the fact that the expectation levels are so high, so early in the season, makes you open to the p-taking by opposition fans when you mess it all up when it counts.'"
So you are chanting at opposition fans because of what 'impartial' pundits say in March? and you are expecting to be taken seriously with that? Pick a target and stick to it. Either you are chanting at the majority of fans or you are chanting at SKY. Make your fooking mind up!
Quote: Back Row Singer "The chant last night was bang on, and the OP knows it, which is why they have created a thread to try and derail it word by word hoping to relieve some frustration from having to stand there and take it for 80 minutes
arwww the Pièce de résistance of your painfully stupid argument; I will answer as best I can (I was originally going to ignore this as well as the opening paragraph)
I was simply asking a question that many Sts fans have ATTEMPTED to answer (with none providing a definitive answer) Furthermore, you also haven't answered the question (I wouldn't expect you to though- the chant is asinine) and instead have taken a very defensive stance that has attacked many, once cock-sure, saints' fans. Furthermore, as I state in my opening gambit (which is entirely honest) I had received a phone call after 7 o'clock today telling me it was being chanted last night (Alas, I didn't hear you). St Helens were as quiet as a mouse yesterday. The Wigan fans from last season out sung you and they were being trounced. Sorry.
Just as a reference. I stand at the 40 metre line in the south stand about 2 barriers up. Also, I am always there and I am sure someone here would be able to find me in the crowd.

It doesn't work like that though does it?
At the start of the season, all the top sides aim to win the Grand Final. You never know what will happen the following year.
The fact that we lost 3 in a row, and got there again.. lost 4 in a row, and got there again etc..
shows real desire and bravery.
I actually want a cup run this year and a break from Old Trafford, we need a clean slate. But still, to keep getting back there year after year despite the losing streak, is a phenominal achievement that should not be underestimated.
Especially when you consider it's always your year
It's always your year
It's always your yeeaaarr..
Just like the last one
It's always your year

| Quote: Sibbs Rhinos "Are you sure that's your real opinion, or are you just bitter you've never made the GF. It's funny how after you win something you're opinion will change. Much like I'm sure most Wire fans will only have defended the league leaders shield after they won it, but before it i doubt many of you will have voiced much of an opinion about it. You've pretty much contradicted yourself here.'"
I defended the LLS but it's nothing to do with never winning the GF. I defended it because I'm a football fan first and my natural tendency is to view the league as the great achievement; I can't understand how any sport can view a short, domestic K.O. competition, as a greater achievement than winning a competition decided over 27 rounds of home and away games between all of the sides. I'm not saying the GF should be disregarded - Leeds' finish was stunning last season - but greater than finishing top of the pile after 27 rounds? Nah.
As a Wire fan, I'd like to see us win the GF and I'd be stupendously proud if we did, but I wouldn't go around rubbing it in the face of other clubs claiming they're crap or that 27 rounds of brilliance means nothing if you can't win three on the bounce at the season's end. It's the nature of sport fans to knock the achievements of others and big up the achievements of their own, but it seems to be something done by RL fans universally in their knocking of the LLS. For me, Leeds winning the GF was no greater an achievement than Wigan winning the CC, but Leeds will be claimed the 'Super League Champions', when really, they should be the Grand Final Winners.
By the way, there's no bitterness involved, I just find it mad how the hardest achievement seems to be viewed as a nothing achievement, yet we all buy season tickets to see our team play in that competition and hope the team wins every game in that competition. It's just weird.

| Also, Back Row Singer, wise move on not using your brain to challenge what I wrote. You don't want people knowing you're an idiot for sure, do you?

You're spot on, it doesn't work like that. But I was just working on a theory of how knowledge before an event would produce a different opinion to after the event. As you said your opinion after losing lots of Grand Finals is to say that it shows real desire and bravery. Whereas had you known that you were going to lose lots of grand finals beforehand you would have probably thrown yourself under a bus or something. I honestly can't imagine anything more disappointing than that in RL sporting terms.

| This entire thread just smells of paranoia.
Don't worry, it's not over yet, but if you can't take the singing on the terraces, well I would certainly not try to over analyse each song on an internet forum.
Maybe you would also like to discuss the validity of the LMS song, or the ade gardner song, or the Roby song, or the Saints light up my senses song.
Or in the end you could just accept you have been hooked by some fans singing a song and it along with the loss has bothered you so much you have had to create a thread to vent your small frustrations.
If you are going to analyse any song light up my senses makes the least sense as hardly any of the featured points of the song are actually relevant any more.

| I just saw the song as light hearted banter and made me chuckle a bit inside (I didn't dare profess amusement at the time since I almost got lynched by those around me for describing saints' opening try as "well worked" )
Edit: just to note, I thought it was amusing because it reminded me of making statements in March/April for many, many seasons of "oh well, there's always next year"

Jeez fella it's just a thread. Making out that it's any more than that is obviously your aim. Chill out and move on.

Mate, if you can't work it out then you must be absolutely thick as.....
Let me explain seeing you're finding it so hard - every year going back well as long as i can remember we have warrington fans telling us how this year they've got the players, the coach, the squad - the time is right for it to be "their year". It's always the same - and it's always the same that you fail to reach the GF let alone win it. Really is one of the season highlights - warrington confidence followed by a few flat track blow outs - followed by failing to get to the big night and watching it on tv again!!!
Plus that chant has obviously touched a nerve - and that's because you know very well that there's more than a hint of truth behind it.

So it is in reference to winning grand finals? well you haven't done that for 5 years. So, really, it seems that the chant would be better chanted at Sts fans.
It's always their year to go one step further and finally win the bloody thing. Every year you get through the playoffs and everyone says what Saints' chances are and then ever year they blow it!
Just admit the chant makes no sense coming from a team that have recently failed to win anything.
Wigan fans could get away with singing it, Leeds fans could really get away with singing it, Saints fans simply can't.
It's either about winning grand finals (something Saints haven't done since I was chasing girls in high school) or reaching Grand Finals (a very sad occasion where all Saints can celebrate of late is LOSING 5 on the bounce)
I would really like a clear definitive answer, as most people have just said some wishy washy thing about having the team or some obscure reference to Grand Finals.
This, seriously, isn't me fishing, what is the root of this chant? One sentence answers may help, as most Sts fans are confusing themselves.

I'm with you on this, many a time i've had a strange look in the crowd, love the banter of some of the chants, thought it was funny.
A high-ish shot around the shoulders and our fans have gone mad
i say "nah shoulders that"
Or a well worked opposition try that i've praised or big hit or last ditch tackle by them.
Always look at a game like a ref and a neutral combined, just need to learn not to vocalise it

I dont think Any Wire fans are BITTER about not Reaching a grand final. its not as if we have been harshly done by in the playoffs weve been fairly dumped out on every occassion.
We could be bitter about not being Champions in 1994 when we finished joint top on the same number of points as wigan and Bradford and were robbed of a Win against Wigan By referee Russel Smith. thats the only Bitterness a wire fan can have.
Personally I think a lot of the leeds Saints and Wigan Fans have some bitterness towards Warrington because we ARE one of the top clubs in the Superleague on and off the pitch.
but your right on the last point I have always maintained the WC challenge is a mickey mouse pre season friendly in which the Aussies dont care much for it. It has no real tradition in the game being played on and off for a few years before being invented again by sky TV just 12 years ago. basically its crap.
then again should we ever win it ........

hmm - not sure if you're deliberately stupid or what, but anyway here's your sentence....
It's an amusing dig at warrington fans always bigging themselves up like they do every year, and every year it ends in failure.
ok - got it???
It's not about saints - it's about you. Any team could sing it to you - actually maybe they should - lets have every team in the league laughing at you and your over-confidence. Even feckin widnes could sing it to you next week and it would still be funny..
