| As I made the original post, I'll add my 'two penneth'.
Firstly let me say that Moran has been fantastic for the Wolves and Warrington as a town.
I think the growth of the club and significant increase in turnover has been due to moving to HJ (doubling of the average gate) plus use of the stadium and facilities for such things as football training / NHS health trust.
With a turnover of £6m+ (as posted earlier) then the £1.65m cap is only ~25%, as opposed to the Bulls case of nearer 50%.
I've not looked at the Wire accounts from the last couple of years but seem to remember seeing in the accounts a few years ago under 'income' a (5 figure?) sum from SJM Holdings (as in maybe paying for the use of facilities or maybe sponsorship of some sort).
That's the sort of 'item' that could be viewed as 'soft'. Maybe that's what the rag was trying to pick up on.
I suppose they don't make specific claims because they don't have any real evidence and it's easy to target clubs who are now successful.
Come on the Wire

| Quote: Alfie Langer No2 "Well you sir, don't know Warrington's set up. Profit is measured after capital introduced, not before. So therefore with Warrington making a profit in both 2009 & 2010 (2011 figures not yet released) I'd safely say we are sustainable without a cash angel that Moran can be. Not that I'd deny he has cause and effect on some things that happen. But he still takes out exactly what he puts in the club.
Expect a reverse in 2011, those corners were self-funded by the club covered by capital already invested and extra sponsorship generated.
If Warrington were close to going bust in our current state, the best business run club in SL, you might as well pack in RL as a professional sport! Hood is just a bob end trying to deflect criticism from his own shortcomings. Tosspot.'"
Nothing to do with prize money??

Possibly. That will definitely be another reason for a negative effect. But a big counter against that is increased revenues through ticket sales for a start. Unfortunately I've not got the bean counter job so I can't tell you until the accounts are published.

| Also remember this is fuelled by the rugby league press as its something to talk about, the whole "RL clubs are spending beyond their means and need to rein themselves in before disaster strikes" raises its head from time to time, gets a bit of debate, people who are disillusioned with Super League and the franchising system will say I told you so, the game will collapse in a few years if Leigh or Featherstone don't get promoted etc.
Wait till the end of the season when rugby union gets linked with one of our players and the debate will soon change, the salary cap should be raised so clubs can pay players the market rate otherwise RU will sign all our top players like Joel Tomkins and the game will die, RL is a tougher sport than football so why don't RL players get paid the same as footballers, etc. There won't be talk about clubs being in financial trouble then it will be about having to be able to spend more to compete with RU.

| I also find it interesting that the 'Bulls' financial model was fine and dandy with Bulls fans while they were sweeping everyone aside and winning trophies. Now their management is claiming that it was not a viable model at all. Funny that it only occurs to them now they ain't picking up the cups anymore.

The second instalment of a three-year compensation deal to Leeds over the Iestyn Harris saga contributed to the Bulls’ losses

I could have sworn I'd read something in the Warrington Guardian where Gatcliffe stated that the club took out a loan for the work to fill in the corners?
I must have mis-read it. Interesting that the club had the capital available to pay for it outright, I wouldn't have expected it.

| Found where I got the idea that the club financed the expansion with a loan from....

He said a deal with a bank to finance growth of the stadium was in place with three options on the table to extend the current 13,000 plus capacity.

| Just going back to the Bulls 'model', one of their fundamental problems was that they had to average attendances of over 10k (maybe as high as 11.5k) to break even because of the ongoing work to the stadium. That's OK when you're winning but - a little like Wigan planning their finances based on winning the CC every year in the 80-90's - you can't guarrenttee that.
Bulls are hampered by their ground but it looks like they didn't talk to their bankers before selling the ground to the RFL !!
If true - it's amateurish and Hood should hang his head in shame.

| The Guardian has quoted £2million in the past in relation to filling in the corners.

Monitoring outside for the people inside: |
|
| was told by someone who works for the company carrying out the work that it cost £1.5 million and was funded by two of the board members.
The extra in the saints game would have paid a little back. An extra 1700 speccies at say £20 each-approx an extra £34000.
