50086_1357229109.jpg [b:33tg3xj5]Me:[/b:33tg3xj5] I'm still reeling from the news that someone is considering watching the 1st and 3rd game on Saturday and NOT watching Warrington play. It's like being in Shea Stadium when the Beatles came to town and deciding to nip out for a fag.
[b:33tg3xj5]knockersbumpMKII:[/b:33tg3xj5] Is it FOOK, you're good but you're not THAT good, jesus you wanky fans need to get over yourselves, Beatles at the Shea in '65 was a once in a lifetime opportunity for some (despite the following years performance), you can watch a very good team in primrose & yellow play every week if you really wanted to but comparing it to one of the very best music groups of all time in an iconic stadia such as the shea is overegging your importance, you're not even the best team in SL atm:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_50086.jpg |

Like you have a clue what Madge said to Joel, Sam, George and the boys.

| He's only had one go at international rugby. He is very, very good. To say he's in the top 30 in Super League is stupid. He's in the top 5 without doubt. Why don't you just admit it? I hope Wigan lose the rest of their matches this season, but I still recognise they have a great set of players. Tomkins would walk into our team when Hodgson retires.

I said he was a very good SL player, I agree he would walk into our team when Hodgson retires, but I don't agree he is one of the best RL players in the world.... don't buy into the sky hype, its like when they try to make out Rooney is as good as Messi or Ronaldo.

| Quote: Ron "Sorry, but I am afraid it is you and the masses that lack the knowledge, you listen to what sky say to much. Sam is a special player really? Surely a special player would perform against the best players in the world, looking good in broken play in SL doesn' t mean much... its the eqivalent of a player looking great in the SPL or the Championship and claiming they're one of the best football players in the world, doesn't make much sense does it if they aren't performing against the best.
When he rips up the NRL, or International defences then I will concede he is special, otherwise his just a very good SL player... you could bring over at least 20 of the backs on the NRL and they would rip open SL defences for fun.'"
When has he had the chances to perform against the best players in the world? He get's 2 games at the end of a regular season against two far more superior coached sides whereas we are coached by McNamara. Thats a great indication!
He performs against the best Super League has to offer and he comes out on top against them too. I really cant believe I'm responding to your drivel
Also name the 20 backs please...

I get your point to an extent, but the coach has no bearing on a players ability to break a stronger defence. Moves etc can make a difference of course.

Can tell you are backtracking now!
No one has said yet that he is the best RL player in the world, but on the evidence we have seen over his short career of 2 full seasons (including 1 at FB), its fair to say he is something special and if he carries on the way he has been progressing, there should be no reason why he won't be one of the best and most definitely one of the best Rugby League players Wigan has seen.

| It's not the coach anyway. Put Steve McNamara in charge of Australia and put Wayne Bennett in charge of England. Australia would still win (although McNamara would probably find a way to get Sykes in the Aussie team).
Put Sam Tomkins at full back in the Aussie team in place of Billy Slater and he wouldn't look out of place.

I agree! I think we could go a lot better if say Maguire was the coach of England. Look how deep he has his attacking line set up in contrast to McNamara, giving players like Sam Tomkins an opportunity to exploit weaknesses in defence.
I think its fair to say we can match Australia and New Zealand in the forwards but its always in the backs where we are lacking. Will be interesting to see now we have backs such as Tomkins and Widdop how we will get on in the 4 Nations.

What point are you making, that Sam Tomkins is as good at fullback as Billy Slater?

Yes Maguire was great at opening up Saint Georges defence, oh wait Wigan didn't score a point second half.

During the WCC game you could see similarities between St George and Wigan and in particular the way attacking plays are executed and more importantly how well drilled both defences were. Difference was St George had been playing like that for years as have most clubs in the NRL and Wigan had been for 12 months since Maguire's arrival. So not bad considering.
Also Maguire took a Wigan team (who under Brian Noble never got to a Grand Final) with the addition of Deacon and became Super League champions in his 1st season. That says a lot about Maguire as a coach.
I'm out anyway, I'm done trying to explain myself to a simpleton.

| Wires you've outdone yourselves, but for the sake of an argument i'll just agree with you.
Sam Tomkins is so overrated.

All your arguments in my opinion are embarrassing, your talking as if he's not good enough for Super League. Not saying he's better than Slayter, yet, but to be compared to him whilst 22 says it all really. Put him in the NRL and he'll be one of the best full backs there as well.
