This is tragic news!

Terry Newton was a great player, he played the game in an uncomprising way which is what you want from any member of your pack. He played on the edge sometimes but his commitment was never in doubt.

He made a mistake and a misjudgement in his life which has ultimately lead to him taking his own life, this is such a tragic loss and my thoughts go out to his family and friends.

What we should be remembering now is how good a player he was and what a gift to the game he was and what a character he is. His crimes shouldn't come into it; unless, of, course that is why he took his own life.

This really is sad news for the sport.

Very sad news our hearts go our to his poor family

Barrie Mac said the right thing this should be a lesson to all the young kids out there who think of taking the option of enhancing drugs to further their career, look at what happened to Terry for the reason not to do it, he has paid the ultimate price.

As Carney said he looked to be getting over the worst of the dark times and it's a shame he felt he couldn't carry on.

The question that should be asked now is if you are banning a player for 2 years for or more do the RFL/governing body have a duty of care to that player to provide councelling, not only in relation to the offence commited i.e. drug use but also mentally too.

The fact that Terry was 31 years old and his mistake probably cost him his career could have been a contributing factor to this tragic occasion

you would think he would think of his kids and then not want to do what he did...
not sure what the RFL could do if a bloke with a family is still willing to commit suicide.

the bloke in my avatar the great Stuart Adamson also Commited suicide leaving behind close friends and Family...i'll never understand the depths someone has to plummet to do that.

i liked Newton for appearing on Superleagues supermen it was quite uncomfortable for him but what he did was better than What Gareth Hocks done. (nothing... and will come back to the sport like a hero in the eyes of Wigan fans no doubt).

very very sad news...feel for his family and all who new him...as brian carney rightly put it if you loved him or dis-liked him..he was a human being...r.i.p terry a sad loss to the game and life in general....

Disliked him,but that comes about like Keiron Cunnigham theyve bothed destroyed us over the years I fully respected him as a rugby league player and Ive gone from such a high with winning the grand final with the Wizards too such a low!!!!!! Feel like crying now RIP Terry Newton xxx
