"They'd butt each other like a pair of billy goats and would both look like a mess at the end of the game. I'd often see Billy an hour later sharing a beer with his rival, with both blokes sporting half a dozen stitches in their scones. They were a breed apart, fornt-rowers - blokes like Bluey were proof of that." Johnny Raper on Billy Wilson and other front rowers of the time:44393.gif

those cold winter nights must fly by in your house, go back downstairs and sit with your imaginary friens they must be wondering where you are.

i find a Hull fan taking the mickey out of Wire equally amusing.

Sorry - have I misunderstood the post by Geordie?
He says Antipodian (ie Aussies) are upset by the lack of professionalism shown by others.

looks like there is a real division in the camp and this would explain the current depth of the defeats....need to get rid of Briers to Celtic poosaders if they will have him

Interesting Geordie, i have just said tonight to my mate that for some reason i would rather have Monas leading the backs than Briers, this is the reason why

As Geordie has mentioned the antipodeans are the more professional, are we stating here that we would rather back the lazy players instead of the professional ones?

Waiting for the 2021 RLWC:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_18764.gif

I think that we have to conclude that Matt King simply is nowhere near as good as he appeared to be before we signed him. Playing in the back line of the all-conquering Storm probably flattered his ability, and his appearances for Australia were on the wing inside centres who could consistently put him into gaps to use his long stride and big frame to force scores. We can't deliver that type of service, and he has no sidestep or classy body-swerve, nor even Gleeson's dancing feet, to make space for himself. If everyone ( including the Aussie selectors ) were fooled than it's bad luck on us that we won the race for his signature. Despite carping from Pie fans they were just as desperate to get him at Wigan.

King's wages may be inflated vis-a-vis his ability, but it's hardly his fault for taking the money. Once you accept that he is basically a solid, sound RL back, then you see that he is really trying hard with the limited talent he has. It's not confidence - he's merely an ordinary player. Outside Gidley or Senior, he may get the sort of gaps he needs. What did he have today? Simon Grix, a capable second/back row forward as his centre!

If Simon Moran hasn't lost too much of his fortune in the slump, he may be tempted to do a deal with King at season end and let him go back to Aus. I doubt King would get a major contract there now, either, unfortunately, so the Wire pay-day will prove to have been his last big one.

kingy and Monas would be snapped up tomorrow by any Aussie club. Something is a miss with our club. Has been for sometime. We have tried to build a first time and there's no depth behind it. If the first time dont play well then we have no back up unlike other clubs. We repeatedly build up young kids into new hopes and I cant remember the last home grown player who has made it big for us.
If TS doesnt ring the changes then no one will. Players need to b dropped because at the meoment they play rubbish and keep their place. In any other walk of life, repeated failure would lead to dismissal in one form or another.
It's time to get rid big time

A former coach has come out in public criticising a player for his performance in training. This person may or may not have been the captain under that coach...

And you wonder where we have been going wrong.

on the limited amount of game time i have seen of king i think this seems a very fair assessment. whilst not having a particularly big impact on the games i have seen he at least appears to be putting the effort in. it's easy i suppose for fans in general to get on the backs of big money earners if the team is struggling, but like you say he can hardly be blamed for taking the money
