| you must be be stupid to think we have done bad out off this deal
Gleeson hasnt set the world alight at the Hj so to get 100k and a player of the caliber of Mathers is a good bit of business
i see Mathers as no more than a squad player fighting it out for the fb spot with Riely i do think TS sees Riely as the number one for now
as Gleesons replacement no rush no point in spending money for the sake of it as mentioned before grix bridge v andderson can all play and if people stop bashing King then i think he can do a job there
It seems to me Mathers as already been not accepted by the wire fans before a ball has been kicked so lets give the lad a chance before we slate him

Spoke to him a few days after he'd signed and he seemed not to know why he'd ended up here (my take - implication was that the money was right for Saints and he didn't lose out but the 'betting' issue meant that either Long or Gleeson would go).
I can't honestly say 'he had a face on him'.
It was almost as though his agent had negotiated a deal and he was a pawn in it.

'" Surely you are not blaming the fans for King being really rather poor?
The fans were behind him for a good while last year, and made excuses for him.

Given that Glees wanted to leave (initially to NRL, but given the quality of their centres I think he wouldn't get a top club or top deal financially) it was fairly clear that if a good offer came in he'd go. I think this is a good offer given his contract situation.
Disagree about Mathers. I rmember seeing him when he was on loan and he was very very good then. I think with TS he can be even better.
Give the lad a chance.

| What a poor media statement on the club site
Martin Gleeson has been seeking a change of club for some time and talk of a club in the NRL has been previously rumoured.
Tony Smith is happy to accommodate the move for the player.
An agreement has been finalised with Wigan Warriors and Martin Gleeson is therefore released with immediate effect. A six figure compensation sum has been agreed with Wigan Warriors.
Tony Smith has again reconfirmed that only players fully committed to Warrington Wolves are wanted at the club. '"
As well as being sloppy English it rings of having a last bitter swipe at a departing player. Would it have been too much to ask to include a brief mention of his Super League record of 44 tries in 110 games with us since becoming our all time record signing....and a quote from somebody in the club management thanking him for his contributions and wishing him well for the future.
Basically we've gone and made a public insinuation that Gleeson wasn't committed, which he can't reply to, it makes it look like sour grapes from us.

This one tells us something, and seems to be making the point that this sale has not gone through to cash in.

TBH IMO Mathers was unfairly dealt to at times with Wigan, from someone inside the Wigan club 'RM is the most dedicated professional I've worked with in a long time'. Even when he wasn't getting in the team and he was being criticised all the time his dedication shone through and I for one certainly hope he regains his former form because he does deserve it.rl]

| he has been trying to engineer a move away from us for two seasons going to the board twice in this time offering two lame excuses whilst still trousering top dollar.
what a committed professional sportsman he has been
for the first time he has had to face a hardline disciplinarian in the shape of tony smith who didn't hanker to him and showed him the door, this is not a bitter swipe it's just the first axe fall of a man who will mould this club into the right shape with only committed staff on board.for this warrington rlfc and tony smith should be applauded.

| So Gleeson is good enough for England, but expendable at Warrington? The mind boggles.
