I pur old purps in the category of "Living Urban Legend"
Anyone outside the north west stares blankly at you and laughs as though you've told a naff joke when you explain who he is.
"Who?"
"and what does he do?"
"haha give over, he can't be banned from everywhere"
everyone has a story about him and they all get more and more exagerated and intense each time they tell it. so for me, he's also a legend. (of sorts) It's all relative.

| How does a post about a message from a hugely popular ex player on the other side of the world turn in to an argument about what we should consider him to be?
He was a great signing for us at the time, very entertaining player, did some great things on the field and off it and he still remembers the club fondly. He should be rembered by the club and the fans fondly (I think he is). Players like Nathan Wood will do for me.

| I find those of you saying he’s not a legend are being unfair. You’re likely older than me (I’m 32) but given that for most of my short life Wire have been bang average (save for the last decade or so?) our definition of a wire legend may be slightly different. But for me, watching Nat Wood at Wilderspool and those early HJ years left an impression on me.
Definitely a Wire legend, he made memories that have formed part of the fabric of what I love about my hometown club.

| Scored the last league try at Wilderspool and first try at HJ.
If those aren't legacies, I don't know what one is.

He was a decent player for us at the time. Played 90 games over 4 years when we were still emerging from our also ran status.
Thing is when you bandy around words like "legend" it just devalues the term in my opinion.
It is fair to group him in the same category as Lee Briers, 15 years, 425 games, international player?

Isn't that what forums do? People discuss, agree and disagree. Or should we all fall into line and accept he is legend without challenge.

Either way to draw comparison between Purple Ali and Nat Wood is shocking to say the least.'"
I'm beginning to seriously worry about you Duckers. It's like you read a post then have a little conversation with yourself in your head then let a chimp type out your response.
My original post is here.
[iPurple Aki is a legend. Les Boyd, Mike Nicholas, Brian Bevan are legend players. Wood may be the former but not the latter. It reminds me of those people who consider Danny Lima a legend.

How on earth is that shocking.

Legend is a colloquial phrase used by fans, and everyone has a different standard. There isn't an objective criteria that can be defined.
Take these ex Warrington wingers for example, all had fine careers.
Des Drummond
Chris Riley
Chris Hicks
Joel Monaghan
Which of those would be most likely to be described as a legend?
Are there hard criteria that we could use to judge? Is it who was the most prolific try scorer? Who won the most trophies? Or is it down to intangible characteristics: who animated the crowd the most, who had the biggest personality, who epitomised qualities that fans want to see in a Wire player?
Also how important is length of service? Who is more of a legend, Jonathan Davies or Ben Westwood?

| Be careful not to mistake the People's Front of Judea with the Popular People's Front, or even worse, the Judean People's Front. Many a hero has been mocked or slapped with a large fish for associating the PFJ with these lesser organizations.

| Its all down to personal opinion ...and my opinion is just as valid as the next fan. If you think he is worthy of Legend status I don't have a problem with that at all. I don't agree...but thats fine. I never saw Bevan play....but I know he is a legend. I never met King Arthur...but I know of his legend. I saw Nat Wood play his heart out in a bang average team....enjoyed watching him play and his antics as a joker. Never once came away from watching him play thinking...Jeez thats one of the best players ever to pull on the Primrose and Blue. I did feel that watching Lee Briers, Jiffy and Boyd. But thats just me. To earn legendary status as a sports star (IMO) you have to perform consistently well at the top of the sport, over a sustained, long period of time and win honours. Ben Westwood....legend...in my opinion.

First one is easy Dezzie is our most legendary winger on our list
The Davies Westwood is interesting question, jiffy is a rugby league legend Westwood is a club legend. Would be the way I would differentiate between the two.
