| Quote: steviewire "One dimensional in attack, not spreading the ball out to the backs enough IMO. Still suspect goal line defence.
Hill, Waterhouse and Benny working their socks off in the pack. Verdict is out on Asotasi yet, for an experienced ex international prop he doesn't seem to have that fear factor in the opposition like Morley and Carvell did. I'd like to see him taking the ball up more and coming in as first tackler.
On early season showing I think both Hull and Wire look average mid table teams, they should both make the 8 with a couple of places separating them.
Having watched the first three games of this season it makes me appreciate more the attacking flare of the team I had the pleasure of watching over the last few years.
Overall 2 points gained and at least we have a few players to come back from injury.'"
Good points but there were positives today. England, Ben Evans & Laithweight held their own and O'Brien played well defensively against Ellis. Let's not forget we still have Woody, Harrison and Russell to play. "Join me in chasing away the boo boys"

Agreed. Left edge defence was appalling, absolutely dreadful. Other points for me:
I thought Asotasi put in a few really big shots today which knocked the Hull players backwards. A good sign he might be coming into some form.
Laithwaite and Evans did well from the bench again.
Another load of stupid 4th and 5th tackle penalties and silly offload attempts,.
Still, it's a win!

| Hull seemed to be able to create overlaps better than us which was alarming & they were making good yards at times when in possession ,but the building blocks are there for a decent side once the confidence kicks in with the younger players. Overall though i thought the defence stood up quite well against most of their attacks.
I hope Dwyer is going to be given some playing time though so we don't start next season with a first team hooker with A team experience.

Like your enthusiasm WW As an East stander I don't hear many of the boo boys. I am not too optomistic we can can reach the heights of the last few years with the current squad. Come mid season and the players have had the chance to play together and gel my thoughts may change but we are struggling to score creative tries at the moment and our defence needs to improve. The creativity may come once and if Ratchford is moved into the halves.
The Grand Final isn't won in February or March as they say

Given that we have lost some key players in pivotal positions I wonder what people will see as success this season. Sure, it's a transitional season but does success purely have to be about winning everything. I would love to see some of our younger players emerge as good quality SL players with a top 5 finish and good cup run. That would make it a successful season for me!

It's going to be a long season for those who cant imagine a Wires match without Lee Briers...
Last season with Lee Briers we lost this fixture, and didnt score as many points, and in better conditions and with a settled mid season team ........

| Apart from in a coaching role the team has lost Briers's skills on the pitch & it would probably take a long time to replace him so the ace in the hole has gone.
The challenge for the coaching staff is to get the team to win as a team .

I don't really agree with that. Quite a few times I watched him stand off attackers instead of moving up, letting Orsmby and others take them on and effect the tackle. He looked almost like he was afraid to get involved today, like he knew if he messed up like last week he would find himself dropped. I'd go as far as saying he was anonymous and ineffectual today.
On the opposite end, I thought Ormsby was brilliant. That lad really looks like he's taking his opportunity with both hands. Big for a winger and not afraid to take on the line, both in attack and defence.
Overall today I was happy to come away with the win but more importantly it was good to see an improved performance. GO'B is really cementing himself in the side, deserved MoM for me today and I think it will be a crying shame if he's dropped again when Russell is fit. We've still a long way to go as a squad but we built up some good attack today (although lacking a little in execution) and looked better in defence. All good signs

Kevin, I tend to agree with you, for success this season I'd go for top 4 or 5 with a shout for the grand final and a good CC run. Likewise re the juniors but I think we may have to bed a few more juniors this year than originally planned, especially if we get injuries to senior players.
I suppose similar to the dominant Saints team as they lost their key senior players it has taken them a few years to rebuild into what seems like they may once again be contenders. I would hope it doesn't take the Wire that long.

Maybe but had Ormsby received a few better passes today he could have been on a hat-trick.

| Ben Currie is 18 years of age and runs hard and tackles well above his weight. People on here need to remember Tony Smith is no mug and reputation counts for nothing. Smith likes Currie and he sees him everyday in training.

| Looking at wire in the first two games they seem devoid of any ideas to break down the opposition and only look dangerous from kicks. In the Leeds game they had ten times the possession in the opponents 25 than Leeds and Leeds with the exception of the Westwood try held firm all night. Leeds had limited territory compared to Wire but Leeds. also had two tries disallowed and blew 4 clear cut chances. If leeds had had the possession that Wire had on the try line and taken chances they would have put 40 past Warrington easily. Still I think the Warrington pack played well against Leeds, Leeds utilise their wingers to great effect and in Hall and Briscoe have the best wingers in superleague also at making good yards from defence. In the scheme of things the Leeds backs were different class and in Bridge and Atkins Warrington were outgunned. I have always had my doubts about Atkins and think he's a work horse but does little in attack to frighten the opposition unlike Watkins who his a real superstar in the making. When he gets the ball in space people stand in their seats. I think Wire will struggle this year in comparison to previous years but will still make the four with Leeds, Wigan and Saints. At the end of the day it's al about injuries, and if everyone stays fit I think the hub cap is between Leeds and Saints, time will tell but don't give up on your team just yet we have only played three games and you have a new halfback combination settling in.
