| Which threequarter on either side had a better game than Rhys?
Charnley? Howler from the bomb
Atkins? Very quiet all night
Tomkins? Didn't look like making a break and didn't look happy under the bomb
Richards? Couldn't catch a cold and wouldn't be in the team if he couldn't kick
Hodson? Beautiful pass for Joel's try but made a big error that could have been costly
The only one I'd say is Joel and he's an experienced aussie international (or was not so long ago).
Give the kid a break.

a bit biased i would say,
Charnley didn't drop a bomb at all Atkins tackled him before he even touched the ball and he took a great one not so long before it.
Tomkins caught more than he didn't and saved 2 tries with last ditch tackling.
Richards was up against Joel who is no mug in the air (neither actually caught any of them) and he put in two tackles which stopped 2 potential Wire try's one of them being on Evans.
Atkins was quite and looked like a passenger.
Hodgson wasn't put under much pressure but had a good game apart from gifting us the ball back which smith kicked a drop goal from.
the one back from both sides who had a lot better game than Evans was Goulding. he was the best on the pitch.
but i do agree with you that Evans is young and has a lot of potential. Really he should put he's hand up for wales this year.

| I really do pray that Evans doesn't become the new Myler and that people to blame him at every turn the kid is 20 and has as been pointed out had 2 long layoffs with injury and if we went on about every handling error over the season every player will have been moaned at or blamed for the way each game turned out
Richards and Monaghan is one of the best positional battles in SL in terms of the high ball (exception may be Ryan Hall) so to say he couldn't catch a cold is a bit harsh.
I like Ratchford but didn't think 13 mins was a good use of a bench spot that may have been better served given to a forward to freshen up the pack
Rhys is a quick player and a strong defender will likely develop into a top SL centre and be a player to most likely build around for the future and as part of a core of young players containing Ratchford Blythe Riley O'Brien Myler Dwyer Currie it looks to be quite a promising group we have to build around for the upcoming years

| I don't know why Evans' performance v Wigan is being questioned, how did Brett Hodgson go ?

| Quote: just_browny "Evans should be at centre for as long as we can reasonably keep him there. He has all the potential to make it in that position, and a top centre is of greater worth than a top winger.
Unfortunately in UK RL we have a tendency to short-termism, and to ship anyone a bit risky 'out of harm's way' (see Tomkins to full-back, which started in part because Tomkins was being targeted in defence). You can say the same of Tom Briscoe and Josh Charnley, both of whom had the attributes to become classy centres but have been stuck out on the wing for a few years.'"
Think you make a good point there tbf. Although I think Tom Briscoe plays on the wing because of his inability to pass the ball well enough. We have the same problem with Craig Hall i think, he's always going to be destined to play Wing or FB. On topic, i think Evans looks a solid prospect without being flashy.

I thought the Hodgson mistake would cost us the game as it conceded field positon I thought we wouldn't get back.
Evans is a good player but I am not sure I would put Ratch on the bench. He is just too good a player and a potential match-winner.

| Ratchford is not a match winning player....hes a good player, but not a man who can turn a game instantly players like barba, slater, tomkins are match winners, for me you either start him or dont play him, i feel its a waste of a sub playing 15 minutes...

Well, at least that's sorted. Tony Smith will be working a months notice and then you can take over as coach.

Agreed.
To be fair though, this thread has been mostly about how much we all rate Evans. Only three posters (Fearnhead Cross, Spaggy, Sir David Beckham) seemed to be seriously questioning him and the latter then admitted he or she had been harsh. So that leaves two posters. You'll always get a minority making ill-judged, quick opinions.

In my defence, when I said he couldn't catch a cold I was referring to Richards pace (lack of), for a winger. Specifically, that he has all the speed of a 60 year-old Lower Angel regular at 11PM having imbibed most of the cellar.
If you want a winger who can jump and kick goals though, he's the man.

| Ben Westwood not handling Farrell was the biggest issue down that side. Farrell ran him ragged. Bennie will fix himself up for next time i'm sure but I think Farrell spent large periods of the game making Bennie look like a mug.

Really? I don't recall that and whilst I know stats don't tell the whole story, the following seem to disagree with what you are saying:
Farrell: 41 tackles, 1 Tackle Bust, 14 carries for 66m, 1 Clean Break, 0 offloads, 2 pens conceded.
Westwood: 21 tackles, 0 Tackle Bust, 23 carries for 147m, 0 Clean Break, 3 offloads, 1 pens conceded
Those figures suggest 1 player was being run ragged in defence whilst the other was coming out as the most effective attacking player in the match. i.e. the opposite to what you were suggesting.

| That does suggest the complete opposite to what I said. I had a conversation with a Wigan fan friend of mine and he was saying Farrell was going to be the pack leader and was more than up to the job. I laughed at the idea. I watched him pretty closely on Friday as a result, I thought he was a constant thorn in our side and whenever he and Bennie met, Farrell seemed to come out on top. I spoke to my neutral colleage and he agreed Farrell seemed to have the beating of Bennie. They also ran through us twice at that left second row channel to score tries. Maybe I am being a little harsh on Bennie because I wanted to see him put Farrell in his place and that just didn't seem to happen.
