27604_1422450193.jpg 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 - It's always our year.:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_27604.jpg |
|
| Highlights-
1. Challenge cup Win
2. Leeds playoff Win
3. Joeys debut
4. Cup semi-final v Wigan this year
There are one or two games that stand out for me: The first win at the JJB, coming back from the dead against Bradford, winning at the Boulevard in 2002, and the Challenge cup win at the Willows in 2000 are favourites.
One league game that really stands out for me is St. Helens away in 2005, where we lost to a last minute Sean Long drop-goal after throwing away a lead in the last couple of minutes. Obviously the result is a major low-light, but it is arguably the best game Ive seen.
Low-lights-
1. St.Helens away 2002 72-2 I think, also include all other visits to Knowsley Road in this.
2. All of 2002, escaping relegation felt fantastic but the season in general, with the exception of games such as winning at the Boulevard, was horrible.
3. Castleford at home in 2008 was horrendous, it was probably the lowest Ive ever felt walking away from a Warrington game, Knowsley road incidents aside.

| Quote: PC1 "What about Quins away this year?
Travelling down there and to be served up that performance was hard to take'"
that was a low point, however in my usual up beat manner i was heard to make a drunken speach on the mini bus on the way home which went a little like this...
"it's the low points like this that will make the victories in the future so much sweeter, all we need to do now is win the challenge cup and this will all be forgotten!"
but in a much more drunken slurry hic, manner whilst trying not to fall over standing up on the bus
i did not expect it to happen later the same season until we beat hull kr by one point, then i felt any thing was possible!

| can't believe 2003 isn't getting mentioned more, just for being a million times better than anyone expected. including that play off game at wigan, which as a defeat was still a pretty good game.

| highs...
wembley.
beating the pies 47-38 or something, for some reason i remember it as a balmy summers evening
leeds in the play-offs, even tho when the dg went over i landed awkwardly on the terraces and sprained my ankle meaning using the clutch on the way home was a tad painful.
first game at the hj/last game at wilderspool
the comeback against bradford
lows...
saints!!!
wakey away, we got beat 50 odd i think, nat wood stole the ball about 2 yards out and scored near the end, just an awful end to a crappy day...
hudds at home!
salford away, david 'bambi' kidwell having a complete 'mare...
the whole steve anderson era and his '3 year plan'...
bradford at home, 80-12?? or something equally preposterous...

No chance there was 300 Warrington fans there that day. I'd guess about 100 perhaps 150 tops.

| Joey debut game, but I remember it more for Nat Woods speech in tears at the end of the game.

I liked the first game of 2003, Huddersfield away. Brent Grose made himself an instant hero intercepting a wayward Stanley Gene pass no more than 20 yard from his own posts, it was insanely adventurous. Same game, Appo made a break length of the field, somehow he got held up over the line, it was a sign of things to come. The brilliant thing about that season was the number of full lengthers Appo scored, he was such a threat from anywhere.
2003 was good actually, just behind 2005 for me. Loved the whole 'leaving Wilderspool with dignity', awesome.

Still hard to fathom Appo's fall from grace isn't it? What a waste. I took my dear lady wife to the last match at W'pool vs Wakey - her first ever game. She's still a fan now but every match since has been a bit of an anticlimax for her up until the Wigan semi last season...

I agree, 100 seems generous.

| One of the clearest memories for me was that Darren Burns 'ave it' moment against Castleford.

| Highs not mentioned by anyone else
1. Fax away in 02, the game that kept us up with Benny chundering on the touchline at the start of the 2nd half.
2. Moz v Crabtree at McGalpine last season.
3. Moz v Crabtree (2) at Wembley.
4. Darren Burns comedy tries in 02.
5. *** **** going for a hotdog, with Stevie G's comments "I know you're excited but you can't do that"
6. Every time Wigan have visited the HJ, including their semi v Cats.
7. Graham Appo length of field winner at Widnes in 03 - him waving at Shane Millard with my two mates only Wire shirts in sea of white in North Stand.
8. Matt King debut try v Hull straight from a kick off in 08.
9. Kevin Penny having a dream end to 07 with 13 in 12.
10. The number of tries my mate has missed over the last 10 years by nipping for a pint/to the toilet only to return saying "have I missed anything?"
a few lows
1. Cunningham's last second winner.
2. The abuse hurled at a number of players & Steve Anderson at the end of his regime - as bad as he was, inexcusable to abuse families.
3. Home play-off v Hull, another crashing end to hopes & dreams.
