| That's the problem with Ashton in being he plays in position/positions he'll keep getting dropped from. We would have beat Wigan if Hill hadn't gone off, beat saints, then Widdop is fit and completely change a team playing VERY well together because he's a marquee player and we've spent alot on him. For me a player shouldn't just come in unless players have played really bad. Ratchford if not needed in the halves will always be picked ahead of him at fullback. Lineham is too good an all round winger to drop. We have this massive overhyped love affair with Charnley who can seemingly do no wrong. So Ashton won't displace them unless injury. So unless widdop, Ratchford or our wingers get injured looking at this decision he won't het much game time this year

It must be frustrating but Price's dropping of Ashton is probably a good thing, if he even was dropped and not just carrying a knock. Wakefield is a notoriously difficult place to go and a place where even world class backs can be put under severe pressure. The pitch is shocking, the crowd are literally arms length from you. With a player as young as Ashton it can take only one or two mistakes to wipe out months of confidence building performances. It's probably a good thing for Ashton's long term development. Looking at the highlights of your game today the pitch looked very heavy, a great leveller of pacey players. Taking him out after two promising performances seems like good management to me. Wouldn't surprise me if you play him next week against Toronto at home, a much lower risk game for him to play in. If Price continues to do that, he can have a lot of highs without many lows which will aid his development.
Playing Ashton centre today would have been an option that would have kept the fans happy. But in Tupou and Lyne, Wakefield are very strong in the centres and he could potentially have been a weak link defensively.

FWIW today its hugely dissapointing, price doesn't have many chances left for me, I felt he should have gone before the end of last season. The last 2 games made me feel I was wrong but it's not going to take many of these for me to completely lose faith again.'"
There’s no doubt that you thoroughly deserved the win against St Helens but outclass is an exaggeration imo and Saints did have more players missing and more important ones at that. You played well but I thought Saints were appalling and couldn’t have made it much easier. Constant errors and penalties meant you were gifted field position without having to work that hard for it and I thought you looked devoid of ideas near the line.

I don't see how Charnley can get stick. He never receives the ball in space, usually he is against both opposition centre and winger. If he was knocking on, dropping balls or missing tackles I could understand, but I don't think he is. It's not his fault we don't have a system that utilises his exceptional finishing.

Our strategy against Saints was not to allow them to play their usual game. As for being devoid of ideas near the line, that has been a problem for a good few seasons now.

Agreed. How many wingers have you seen at Warrington who were genuinely better than Charnley.
1. Chris Hicks
2. Joel Monaghan - 50/50 on this one. If you switched round the eras they played in, would Charnley have outscored JM?
Lineham when on form is up there but he hasn't been as consistent.

Eh? The BV pitch is shocking?? BV has a lot of things wrong with it, but the pitch is not one of them.

I'm a fan of charnley and can't see why he's getting stick on here. But I wouldn't put him in the same league as Joel. That man was different class.

| Hmm, I think that overhypes Joel Monaghan a bit. He was good but not top class for me. He didn't have exceptional pace. He was a good finisher, very consistent. Good aerial threat as well. But what did JM have that would separate him ahead of Charnley? Not sure I see it.
Hicks was similar to JM and Charnley in terms of his all round quality but was a better athlete IMO so he comes out top. We got Hicks late in his career too - in his Penrith days he used to be regarded in the conversation about fastest player in the NRL.

| Hicks is the best winger in p&b I have seen for a VERY long time.
Probably would have to go back to John Bevan to find a winger on the same level.
An unbelievable athlete.
CC hat trick was incredible.

He was great...but Dessie Drummond was better imo....
However I've seen Lineham do things no winger in P&B in my memory has...all though...just a hand full mind you.

| I think Monaghan is by far and away the best winger Warrington have had in a long time. He made everything look effortless.
He got plaudits for his finishing, and rightly so, he excelled there and is without peer in that field. But he was also fantastic at defending. There were countless times where he snuffed out opposition chances and often intercepting or knocking down passes for certain tries. He was superb in the air both in attack and defensively.
But where he gets little credit is his kick returns and meters made. He didn’t look to be travelling far or fast, but routinely got us out of our own end without any trouble. While Charnley is a bit more bombastic in his return, and you notice more with his flailing arms and legs trying to hunt a penalty, JM just made meters, played the ball quickly and set a platform.
