I've "kept my powder dry", and not posted on here since the Wigan defeat, until we actually won, yesterday.

All week, people have said to me that we'd get spanked. I said I wouldn't be so sure. We have a great chance, so long as we play basic rugby, and don't give away daft penalties. We did both, and it worked a treat. Add to this, an hour's worth of muppetry from Sintellins, and it was a perfect recipe.

We won that game with no halfbacks, and predictable kicks. But most importantly, with great belief and discipline.

Oh, and the look on that fat unfunny Sintellins "comedian" in the Royal Box, was pure gold "Monkeh, Monkeh. We wuzz robbed. We didn't bokkle it, thoh"

We'll done, Wire. Superb

I think that performance also killed a few RL urban myths and re-established a few tarnished reputations.

Those players would (and did) run through fire for each other
Price has most definitely NOT lost the dressing room
Chris Hill is still one of the best props in the comp
Dec Patton has got a bl**dy good kicking game when he wants to

Well, it's lunchtime somewhere so time for a celebratory Bristol Cream.

An absolutely fantastic disciplined defensive display won that game for us, well done SP and the 1-17 who wore the P&B .
All week I hadn't been looking forward to the game, as my head said we were massive underdogs, and with good reason. However, there was never any doubt about who I wanted to win, and it was a very sweet moment to see Chris Hill lift the cup.
My head hurts, and I need a "livener", now were did I put the fridge?

The game reminded me of finals from 20+ years ago; intense, physical, not many scoring opportunities and for our part at least, few errors and good completion rates. Price essentially dispensed with the HB's and played a forwards game which tactically was really astute against Saints, so credit where its due he turned the tables on Holbrook and nullified the Saints attack.

Congratulations Wire, from 1-17 plus Mr Price and the coaching staff. A superb performance from everyone involved.

One of my personal highlights was Goodwin's try saving tackle on Tommy "Golden Boot" Makinson - especially when Goodwin said after that they'd watched how he dives in and practiced for just that scenario.....preparation makes perfect!

Thank you Wire, they can shove their 75-0 up their Arris!!

PS - anyone else feel that the BBC commentary showed a definite Stains bias?

Here, here! I was bemoaning the fact the amount of penalties we was giving away in recent games & the errors slipping in. But we turned up and did the basic right. We had a steely determination about us that haven’t seen for a while, experience from the finals last year definitely helped we treated as ‘just one game’ where as the occasion got to Saints.

Fair play to Price, he’s been taking a lot of flack from a lot of fans (including myself) in terms of our style of play and recent results. But I would take those defeats and poor performances again & again & again for to see us lift that Challenge Cup..

I just hope we can kick on in the league now and get Blake back firing on all cylinders..

Agreed. 1985-95 with Wigan dominant Wire had one of the best records against them. That was through hard work stopping the Wigan 'machine' and, invariably, when that Pie team found itself 20 minutes into a game and not in front by a bagful, they had no 'plan b'. Same yesterday: Saints were not allowed to play and as early as the 15 minute mark had stopped the sweeping moves they've relied on successfully all year and were all, Makinson, Percival, Grace, even Roby, charging in as individuals trying the 'make something happen.'

Exactly, got in there faces ,put Saints off their game ,ripped up their game plan.

The truth is Saints didn't have a bad day at t'office ,we wouldn't let them play. Defence ,much improved handling ,passing ,discipline & attitude did the rest.

Well done to all concerned & thank you !

Just watch the match again for the 1st time on the box.

We deserved to win but Saints can feel aggrieved at the Morgan no try and later on the Grace knock on - which for me was a Wire knock on - that I think led to the 2nd try. Bad calls.

But making so few mistakes, tackling until they stood still and a fabulous kick chase - we were well worth the win.

It just shows that with the bright tactics we can win. Similar to the semi against Hull, but Saints were better at defending the high kick.

Price especially deserves some plaudits.
Hes rightly faced a barrage of criticism and I don't think for one minute some of our underlying issues are really solved, but he had the right tactics for the game yesterday with the players available.

So last year Holbrook was criticised for not rotating and now he is being criticised for resting players icon_lol.gif
