You mean, when there's a Championship Grand Final, quite conceivably pitting the teams finishing 1st and 2nd in the table against one another, with the winner being promoted?
Yep I can see that being a lot different to last night's game.

I wouldn't mind doing a straight swap with them. Brown for Sammut.

| Very suprised Leeds could'nt identify Sammut as an ideal replacement for Burrow.

| I wonder if London Broncos vs Salford on a Friday night would attract half as many as Toronto would... I doubt it....
I'm amazed that the Hillbillys in the north of England dont find it totally mind blowing that roughly 7,000 Canadians are continually turning up to watch Rugby league in Canada.....
seriously are we back to watching London play on a sports centre somewhere in front of a thousand fans again.... what a backward step.
Toronto sacking Rowley is a must though now. if theyve any sense they'll go all out and get an out of work Aussie.

I'm a bit of a traditionalist but have been won over by the support base Toronto has achieved in 2 years playing in the lower tiers. I was dissappointed when they did not win (not that they deserved to). I think they have achieved bigger crowds than any other franchise side and half of SL. They obviously have an excellent marketing department (note the TV adverts with the Toronto tourism board)
I agree for such a well funded club they need to bring a quality coach in and get rid of some of the hand-me-down players.
We know what London will bring and that is about 2K home crowds. But let's see.

| Aye. It's a bad result for Super League London coming up and Toronto not.

London have been capable of a 3-3.5k core fan base.
Leneghan and the move to the stoop screwed that up.

If they are to reach those heights again then had better get a move on with their stadium expansion*. Current stadium capacity 3,200.

I noted the TV adverts on Sky Sports news and thought i was a bit cringeworthy TBH.
I've nothing against Toronto per se, if they'd have come up they would have deserved it but really do you think that the Come over to Canada adverts were a masterstroke capitalising on the fact that they were in the news OR it was all a bit 'counting chickens' that ultimately backfired?

I'd say master stroke. The Wolfpack probably recieved a some form of benifit from the places they promoted and showed RL fans what they can do aside from just come over, watch the match and go home. Note that Ashton Sims says "see us spend 48hrs in Toronto" (or something along those lines) which is Probably the ammount of time the average fan will travel over for. It appeals not only to Superleague fans but to championship fans as well. I would be willing to bet alot of money that the same advert is also appearing on canadian and US sports channels to, trying to build the fan base with ExPats and newcomers alike.
Marketing wise Toronto do more and a better job than 90% of the Superleague clubs and even Superleague and the RFL itself.

It's the first advert I have ever seen in the northern hemisphere featuring RL players. It looked slick and professional.
Surely this is better than the RFL approach to marketing which is to send leaflets in the post to people who already know about the event and already decided if they are going or not.

| I'm just waiting for the backlash when the Lamport matchday DJ stirs up the home support with a sample of Gary Glitter 'wanna be in my gang(come on, come on).
Don't be surprised.... Gadd earns £200k plus off PRS royalties every year because of Canadian ice hockey and US basket ball.

Nothing wrong with the content, or quality and yes it was slick I wasn't particularly sure about whether the timing was right like they thought SL was in the bag or if not whether it could be misconstrued as such

Yes I see. I thought the timing was just because they had a big game coming. But I think initiatives like that should be lauded.
