What can Mathers do better than Riley when it comes to fullback?
Seriously, based on what I've seen of both players, Riley is far superior in that position.

That will be your defence mechanism kicking in to prevent you from believing that Mathers may turn out to good signing for Wire and actually improve a position that we needed to strengthen, thus allowing Riley to return to the wing.

Riley has made more errors in Super League this year than any other player. I like the things he does in attack but reckon as a last line of defence, we could do better.
I know Wigan fans aren't going to change their opinion of Mathers, but wait until he's had an injury free run working under a coach who has a proven record working with him. |

I agree watched Mathers in the reserves at weekend and I think Riley deserves to keep his place. Mathers needs time to get to the level required, all he seemed to do was shout alot, with little effect. Riley is getting better each week and has earned his place |

SAme here. Watching him on Saturday he looked to be directing thigs in the middle of the park. Lets face it we should not just rely on 1 person to kick the whole game, other SL teams like Leeds & Saints tend to have a main kicker but have other people who can kick so it keeps the opposition guessing |

Mathers is one of the most enthusiastic players in Super League, that I can give him credit for.
But Riley seems to be a very attacking-minded fullback who may make mistakes but can often redeem himself by making a decent break/backing up to finish off a try etc. From his time at Wigan, I can't say I remember seeing Mathers make a break or finish off/be involved a break by being support...1 try and 1 try assist in his whole Wigan career tells it all. Also, in defence he seems to be lacking alot of confidence.
In the reserves, he performed better when playing at stand off.
He comes across a sound lad and the right attitude and hope he can find form at Warrington. |
