David Solomona, if he can regain his fitness and recover fully from his shoulder injury then we have a potential world class impact player that can change a game.
I`m presuming he`ll be used as an impact player from the bench in the early stages until he can prove his fitness, Saints and Leeds have had great impact from the bench in years gone by, Fasavalou at his peak and Ali Lauitiiti at Leeds who could both come on and change games.
Solomona is a match winner in his own right just like Ali Lauitiiti, its not often this type of player becomes available and its well worth the risk in chancing his shoulder will make a full recovery.

| It's all very exciting again isn't it. Half back is the one for me. It is the be all and end all of our Briers reliance.

| Cover across all positions looks excellent for me & reassuringly we won't be over-reliant on one person allowing all players opportunity to shine & be picked on form not name...

| When I think about it. Whilst going back and to down various motorways, the half back situation is ALWAYS one of the main topics of discussion. I got really excited about Monas though, he made me so angry! Come on Richie Myler!
Soon be boxing day.

I think it makes a change from recent years when we have just had an extra winger at full back. hasnt mathers played SO at amateur level before? i also remember him filling in a few times in that position at leeds some must have some creative talent according to smith.

| Mathers played one game at 6 for us against Wakefield iirc.
He didn't look a natural in the position but he has played there for Wigan, Leeds and England acadamy I think.

| I'm sort of intrigued by the Jon Clarke thing. I thought he was starting to show some form prior to injury, sprinting home in France etc. It's not that i'm excited to see him or anything, just interested as to what'll happen with the abundance of nines, so that interests me.
A Kevin Penny re-birth would be nice, sort of 2007 with ball in hand, but with a game sense & awareness we've not seen before, I haven't given up on him yet.

What does it say ? [Apart from the above]
Ie, struggling to be fit for the start of SL, might miss a chunk, chronic - give up.

1883.jpg Didn't William Webb Ellis pick up the ball and run, someone should really tell Rugby Union.

| The one I have the greatest anticipation for is Solomona. I don't recall us having an exciting ball-playing, potentially game breaking backrower for as long as I can remember. I have been trying to recall someone remotely similar, the closest I have come up with is Burns, but he wasn't really that type of player.

Agreed - he could be awesome. Though equally he might never play.
Very high hopes for Ben Harrison also.

Its very similar to what i posted on the previous page, the one past Warrington player that Solomona is similar to is Les Boyd, obviously they played in different positions but they are both similar in build and both could and can offload in impossible siutuations. Solomona doesn`t run the ball like Boyd did but he certainly attracts quite a few defenders into the tackle in the same way whislt looking to offload, that creates space elsewhere on the pitch.
Solomona could be the real X factor if he can regain full fitness, on his day i would say that him and Ali Lauitiiti are the 2 most destructive seciond rowers in our game when on song.
