Serious question and apologies if this has been picked up before.
But if you pay a player off before the season I`m guessing it does not count on the cap.
Whereas if you pay a player off mid season. Does it count?

As I understand it, it counts on the cap unless getting a season defining injury before or with in a couple of games into the season at the most, or retired.
The only way to cut loose is for another club to sign him, and then the cap fix is moved to the new club.

I don’t think money is the real issue, Wire in recent seasons have always kept something in the tank. I think it’s the quota spot they are trying to free up, which doesn’t seem to be bottled up like the salary cap…strange thinking about that, something I had never considered before.

I would guess he wasn`t earning peanuts and much will depend on how much you have to play with.

The Widnes friendly game should be an opportunity to see Max Wood playing for us.

Looking forward to seeing how our young guns play in that game.

I appreciate this is a 'rumours' thread, and we're always going to have the 'I've heard' & 'apparantly' comments.

But for the avoidance of doubt, and i mention it earlier in a reply to someone, Kasiano has a bad wrist injury. He would have been out for months, potentially for the season. So a decision was made about paying off his contract like the club did with Brown to free up space in the cap and a quota spot should the club choose to sign another overseas player.

There was no silly demands or refusal to leave. His contract was just paid.

And 'No'..... I don't know if there are any overseas players being approached yet. But no doubt i'll find out.

I would have stuck around for the full salary.

I think this way he gets paid up front and can go home immediately, rather than being paid monthly and waiting until the end of the season.
