It is a testimonial but it is also the only run out for the first team squad pre season. Inevitably we will be sieving through the entrails post match for clues to the season ahead. We will also be expecting rather more than usual from such a match given the mess that was last season.

These pre-season friendlies seldom fail to disappoint. We’ll inevitably look ‘clunky’, with missed opportunities and defensive lapses galore, and then increasingly disjointed as we make changes in the second half (although this year we look to be fielding a much smaller match day squad). Despite all the training we will look unfit.

I can recall a pre-season game against Wigan during the Smith era where it looked for all the world as though these were the two teams who would be propping up the table come the end of the year. A week or two later the same two teams kicked off the season with one of the best Super League games of all time, you just can’t tell. Hopefully we’ll come through this one unscathed but I’m already resigned to the fact that I’ll have wasted my money, and yet I go every year.

Hoping for an entertaining game from our new Derby game partners & ourselves, especially with a few ex Wires in the team.
Maybe Mr Powell will try 2 hookers on the field at some stage ,it has worked well in the past & there is the added bonus of Russell scoots from dummy half.

PS is the Domino's Pizza trophy still up for grabs ? I believe we are the present holders of that trophy.

Before kick off I’d like to disagree with the many predictions that are putting Leigh to finish 11th or 12th. I genuinely think Leigh could make the top 8 maybe top 6. I think they’ve got a good squad and will win plenty of games.

Will be interesting to hear how we play.
Hope everyone gets 40 mins, and with the exception of the hookers I hope it's a continual 40 mins.
Only then can we have any sort of inkling into how fit they all are.
(I don't like any player who can't play a half non stop - only way to control that is to reduce the number of interchanges allowed).

I remember a few years ago we whooped Salford in the pre season match and then got stuffed by them one week later at the HJ when Cull was coach I think.

Well, like Salford, Leigh have plenty of players who think they will have a lot to prove (and a coach) they’ve also got quite a bit of class in the squad to go alongside that. I think they’ll be dangerous all season.

I've put leigh to finish 10th in my prediction. Maybe they could get 9th if ipape stays fit. Can't see Hull kr or Wakefield finishing above them and I reckon Hull kr will struggle to stay off the bottom of the table.

To be fair, Lam won the LLS in 2020, and lost in the last second in the Grand final to a freakish try that year.
In 2021, he was without Field & French that season also. I'd like Leigh to have that success.
