Quote: Moe syslak "Powell is in charge of signings, hence Holmes, matautia and minikin coming in. Any more like that for next season and he'll be losing the fans backing.'"

Partially true mate, Matautia has looked lively, Minikin can’t judge yet but certainly agree on Holmes. Looks physically goosed sadly.

That’s fine, the probably being that if you pay someone off in Year X then that payment counts towards the salary cap for Year X. So ok, you’ve got someone out of the door that you don’t want but you don’t have cap space to bring in a decent replacement.

I'm fairly sure that's not true. The salary cap is measured in ‘real time’ so the cap is the amount you are paying players at any one time. As long as it's always under a £2.1m annual amount, you're okay.

That's how we were able to sign Williams last season as we had dumped Inglis' contract.

Can a contract be terminated with a seperate compromise agreement and a player be de-registered like Inglis?

I guess we are talking about King and Philbin here? I'd ship both out to Leigh with subsidised wages and let them battle to gain a 1st team place.

Powell needs to show that he is in charge and loaning at least 1 player out would demonstrate that.

The problem for him though, is that on current form Oliver Holmes should be one of those loaned out.

Neither would get in Leighs team.

Must admit, I've not been enamoured with holmes, I wasn't best please when it was announced, him and massey have been previously massive bug bears of mine, baz n tez on sky overrating anyone that's average in a lesser team. He was never a player I was concerned about when playing them, he seemed a bit jack hughes

Holmes was a player I, like many, took little notice of at Cas but I took more of an interest in after he signed and I was suprised - he looked like a robust defender, great engine and liable to bust a tackle.

Then he blubbed on his Cas exit like a 5 year old on his first day at big school and he's been shocking since. Matutia played well in the halves but probably only as he had less scope for spinning like a top and inducing confusion in everyone bar the defence.

Said it before, having wealthy owners and blank cheques isn't always a plus - you get lazy, flippant and careless with your signings.

Yes ...there is definitely something in this but I reckon all things considered I'm sure almost everyone supporting a club would be grateful, thankful and relieved about extra financial help. No one, really thinks we'd be better without it.

I'm just glad that my career in engineering wasn't a spectator sport. Could you imagine what its like to have your livelihood discussed on a public forum?

Yes professional sport is a tough place. It's balanced by plaudits, acclaim, and salaries beyond normal people's reaches. It is also not compulsory to partake in.

I see your point but the vast majority are very nice blokes, who should be treated with respect, who love rugby (and are pretty good at it). When I hear abuse being thrown, by some who just haven't a clue, it just isn't right.

No it's not, abuse is not on, never is.

Discussing a players ability and contribution to the side, contract etc on an open forum dedicated to rugby league discourse is perfectly reasonable.

That is the whole point of this discussion forum.

Don`t recall ever reading anything on here regarding players, that I would classify as abuse.

Yes, there are criticisms of players, but all comments are moderated if necessary, and the views encompassed in this particular forum cover a very wide spectrum.

Absolutely. Our forum is a model for others to follow. Total empathy ... unless we lose, miss a tackle, drop a ball, pick wrong team (I'm joking btw)
