Engineering work is always carried out over the Bank Holiday weekends because far fewer people use the train at weekends vs the working week. I've traveled by car for the last four but 2016 seemed to be a tougher journey both ways than the previous three (nothing to do with the result). I think that it took me an hour to do the first 30 miles.

I aways pick up the train from Banbury...direct to Wembley Stadium...great journey...very fast. You can pick up these Marylebone bound Chiltern trains from Birmingham Snow Hill if you didn't want to drive as far south as Banbury. Warwick Parkway is on this line too.

Just been on booking.com, loads of cheapish hotels available in and around Wembley. I have a load of £15 vouchers as well if anyone wants one. I found rooms in the Hilton right next to the ground available for £99 excluding breakfast.
I've managed to get a room on Friday night for £59 with free parking.
