You mean Farrell? They had Ainscough for a large portion of the season, apart from when a SL team offered him first team Rugby which we would have to take, and Davies for the entire season practically.
Farrell went, and played that well that he forced himself into the first team setup.
I think if you asked Widnes fans they'd be glad of the linkup with Wigan as they got a quality prop, a quality winger for most of the season and a second rower for a portion of the season who was obviously better quality than the rest of the league.
The whole point of the dual reg system is to do exactly what Farrell (and in part Davies) did, go to Widnes, perform well and get the odd first team game. When you don't get selected you can play for Widnes again instead of the U21's.

how many games did farrell play for widnes?..not many i'd say.
if i was ainscough i'd have walked out on wigan last season,it was ridiculous what they did with him.
widnes supporters wont be happy if wigan play by the same rules as last season, very very disruptive.

thing that used to make me laugh about ainscough was, every time someone threw him the ball he had this look on his face as if it was the first time he had ever seen one.... he would then proceed to catch it like a girl while his centre used to shout RUN RUN RUN at him.

thats the swings n roundabouts with the system though.
There was a reasonable article in RLW over the pros n cons of the situation, some championship coaches were fully behind the concept and appreciated the benefit of having the player compared to the risk of him being called back.(leigh
some took part and bemoaned having to change the team when recalled (whitehaven)
and some didn't bother at all, rather than chopping and changing (fax(i think))
Millward and smith were pretty happy with our arrangement god even said he'd be happy to send more players out under this deal, rather than the rigid 1 month loans, though it'd be interesting to see who the teams who complained about, were loaning, and what the squad situations at the parent clubs were like.
Maybe if we'd been worse off with injuries this year our situation would be different.

I think if you plan correctly (i.e. not relying on dual-reg's but thinking of them as a bonus if the players are available) then they came be extremely beneficial to clubs.
Widnes had a strong enough side to compete anyway, but they got a quality young prop in Davies for practically the entire season, bonus of having Farrell for a short time and Ainscough.
Out of the three i think Ainscough will have been the most frustrating to them, started off with them, went to cas, back to Widnes. Bit awkward.
As for Farrell, he went there, played very well, forced his way into our side. Thats surely the main point of them.

| I think Rhys Williams can have a good future at Warrington, he seems to score plenty of tries and has good strength for a winger. He should go out on Dual registration this year, along with Blythe and McCarthy again. Let Rhys Evans have another season bulking up, he could always go to someone else later in the year.

icons077e_files/4864-863FALH-msnicons.jpg How is education supposed to make me feel smarter? Besides, every time I learn something new, it pushes some old stuff out of my brain. Remember when I took that home winemaking course, and I forgot how to drive?:icons077e_files/4864-863FALH-msnicons.jpg |

According to Ian Millward's quoites in RL Express this week they have, although to be honest I'll believe you Luke. What would Millward know about it?
