As much as I’m very happy about this signing let’s not to carried away. If as an earlier poster had said that if Gold Coast had matched or bettered Wire’s offer then he would of stayed. Before anyways says well we don’t know full details etc, well I get that. Fact is it makes me worried we are just another stop gap or whatever. Anyway as I said very happy otherwise.

funny isnt it... a few weeks ago we had people complaining the club was in a mess from top to bottom..... and were using the internet rumour of a new contract for Gidley as evidence.

Now we have just signed a 26 year old HB in his prime from the NRL on a 3 year deal as the Marquee.

He has all the skills, but the thing that always stopped him from becoming a top line half in the NRL is his low workrate.
He played in the halves for Newcastle for years with partners like Jarrod Mullen and Kurt Gidley do 60% or 70% of the halves work and Tyrone doing nothing wrong and getting a pass mark every game. Newcastle always hoped he'd pick up his workrate as he got older, but he never did, and they cut him loose when it became clear he just didn't have the motor.
The slower pace of the ESL should suit him.

Brilliant. Well done Wire. To those prattling on about him signing just for money etc (why else would anyone sign?) I don't care if he comes over and pulls his face for two years about the weather, food, fans and general cackness of SL as long as he's quality for the time he's on the field. Even if, for whatever reason, he fails as a signing it's a quality bit of intent from us.

MIGHT only be here for the money but if he ends up being worth the money, he could bag us a winners ring.
If he leaves after a year, no harm done, just means Take That will be wheeled out again for a tour.

If you were planning on having a bet on Wire for the GF...I'd get on today. Since Price and Henderson were confirmed the bookies prices went from 10/1 to 13/2.
I can see that narrow to 6/1 and 11/2 very soon.
Currently still 7/1 for the CC...I can see that being trimmed to 6/1 too.

In all seriousness though, he looked good in the NRL from what little I have seen, so bodes well.
Fair play to him for moving his young family half way round the world too. He'll be well paid for the privilege, but sure he could have gotten an NRL gig if he had wanted and taken the 'easy' option.

Your reason doesn't stand up...he will be the highest paid player in Sl and other interested NRL parties couldn't match our bid. They have a bigger salary cap but how can they possibly compete with a limitless marquee?

Gold Coast wanted him to stay, and other NRL clubs were in the mix if you believe KF.

We've offered him a wedge to come over, that's why he's here. Highest paid player in SL next season, or would that be Tomkins still? Think he was rumoured to be on £400k....

We offered Barba more than we offer Tompkins if KF is to be believed and I heard that before he confirmed it last month.
