Good luck to Maneely he always looked capable and it is good he has been picked up by Marshall.
Strangely hadn't thought about this but with Maneely, Kenny and Dwyer gone it could even mean our lad is the next out and out specialist hooker in the club although I dare say Grix, Ratchford or Myler will be used if required.

Oh and for the record, IMHO hooker is a specialist position and if you get it wrong your team will not perform. And our lad was a halfback turned hooker, as FMC says you very rarely see players starting as hooker and then becoming a halfback. |

Oh And I already know ducky is going to refer to monas, who was halfback by trade, and only moved to hooker to accommodate Matt Orford. As has been said many times over, Mick was signed off the back of his performances playing scrum half in 07 when he should have been picked for origin.
He is most definitely the exception that proves the rule.

From the U19's games I've seen Ryan has always performed well. Can really punish teams around the ruck in attack, and his tackle technique is great. If there was a U21's or U23's I'm sure he wouldn't be leaving.

You've got to bear in mind with highlight reels, that it is only the best bits that get shown. Kevin Penny's highlights are up there with the best, but the reason he's not starting every week is the stuff left off the highlight reel.
I'm not saying Maneely's necessarily got a 'shocker' reel - I've never seen him play - just that we can't take that video as proof that he is amazing.

We have two hookers from the 2014 Under 19s squad still with us plus those coming up from the 16s.
It is such a shame that we are losing the likes of Ryan and Sean Kenny, plus Louis Jouffret and Jake Eccleston and also lads from the 2013 side due to the shortsightedness of SOME clubs over the past two years. It needs sorting very quickly before more lads are lost to the game.

There is no sign of it changing any time soon. I don't even think the majority of the clubs are even considering it never mind asking for it to be changed. |

If you were building a team from scratch and were told you can only have one world class player, which position do you pick?
For me it's hooker, the play starts at the ptb, a world class hooker will win you more games than any other position.
Hooker is definitely a specialised position.

It certainly does needs sorting and quickly, nothing underneath or weak foundations it will surely implode, in the great scheme of things the cost of running a under 21's can be affordable, a few older players being allowed to gain match fitness, more time for late developers a host of benefits, as Walter states short sighted in capitals. |
