| I was surprised not to see Paul Wood's name on the list of people leaving too. I know he's still contracted for next year, but as was Riley and for me Woody has not offered a lot so far this year.

| Chris has been great for us, hope we sign him permanently. And I hope Agar doesn't do to you what he did to us. Good luck in the play-offs #WTID

| If we get Riley I'll be very pleased.
This thread sees a few of you critical of his defensive performance last year, well if that is the case he has certainly improved. He's not scored many for us but that is more down to the service. His defence has been exceptionally good and this wing has improved significantly compared to last year due to him being there.
We'll take Riley and you can have Agar. Sounds like a cracking deal to us

Riley came in for a lot of flak, mostly only from just a handful of posters. IMO he was let down badly by the form of Atkins. Atkins got the patience of TS but Riley and Penny didn't.
I like Riley, and never dished him myself. He stuck to his wing and was left countless times with a whole as big as Shuan Wanes ass.
Our left side is stronger for the want of using Rhys Evans and I wouldn't swap him for Riley but for the wrong reasons. Not because Rhys is a better winger, but he gives Atkins confidence and with it Atkins plays almost as good as any left centre in SL.

| Trent has had a solid 3 years I think, when he joined people at first found it hard to come to terms with the type of player he was. Runs one of the best lines I have seen in my time (I'm 17).
Don't think we need to replace him and I don't want to either, we've got Laithwaite there and he's the one who should be in Trent's place next year.

| Sad, but expected, re Riley.
Waterhouse. As I've said on here countless times, I wont be losing much sleep on him going home. Ta for your efforts. Far from a bad player, but you didn't justify your big overseas player's wage packet.
Now, I'm well and truly out of the loop regarding the youth players, but I thought Saltenstall (sp) was going to be the "next bright thing". What went wrong with him?

Unfortunately Saltonstall never really pushed on from the U19's. He played for England Academy in 2012, but never quite managed to get a debut in the first team. This year he didn't play until mid April - presumably he was unable to get a gig with a Championship side. Finally York in Championship 1 took him and he has been a regular in the side over the season. Pity, but an all too familiar story for us.

| So is your only gripe with waterhouse his pay packet?(not that anyone on here has any idea what that actually is!). That is hardly his fault, the club decide what to pay him. Waterhouse has been very good for us and it shows when he isn't there(like last years grand final). That said, i think the time is right to let him go. We've had a few good years out of him and now have some young exciting back rowers in the team.

Seems a shame.
Whenever I scanned the Guardian, he was spoken of quite highly, and always seemed to get a mention on here.
Maybe he's found his level. Still quite young. Time for the lad to develop. He owes that to himself, after a good youth career (that I've read about)

I've had many gripes with Waterhouse, not least his wages.
His disappearance in games being my major gripe.
It showed when he wasn't here this season....we went on a 10 match unbeaten run
Yes, he could tackle
Yes, he could take "crash balls" and have 3 men to bring him down....
BUT, I want more than that from a SoO/ AussieTest forward.
As I've said before, we got Gary Sanderson, for (what virtually all of us assume) Matt King's wages.

Remember that time he disappeared at Saints in the playoffs?

| Think Waterhouse is the victim of some pretty harsh stereotypes and lazy viewing. He isn't prolifically quick = he doesn't take the ball up hard, etc.
I think he's been consistently good since he's been here. He's always brought it, he's always offloaded well, he's always ran good lines and he's always been a handful for opposing defences, especially if he isolated an opposing player 1v1. I'm more of a fan of 2nd rows that play with pace, like Anthony Watmough and Lee Gilmour in his day, but I could appreciate 'House's qualities and felt he offered us something very different from the back row. He made the odd error but christ, name me a forward of ours that doesn't make daft mistakes? We've said it about near enough all of them over the past five years or so.

| Waterhouse - not sure what I think overall, I do feel some disappointment given his background as a Kangaroo international. When he was in good form he was a very good player, up with the best back rowers I've ever seen at Wire. He seemed to have a few too many spells where his form wasn't great. I know a lot of players have ups and downs but I felt like he was average more times than I would have expected. Not a disastrous signing by any means.
Riley - sad to see him go. I have liked Riley for a long time and he's one of the few players of real quality to come out of our Academy. People are quick to diss Riley and hype up the next young big thing but these young big things never seem to go on to score 100 odd tries and win multiple trophies like he did. I was wrong about Riley early on. I saw him as the next Gaskell, someone that would be praised for his attitude but limited as an attacking threat. Then in 2008 he really broke through, he overtook and displaced the erratic Penny and scored bags of tries. I think Riley was only ever grudgingly accepted by our fans because they would have preferred Penny because he was a bit quicker - Riley's try scoring record was better than Penny's but people seemed willing to forgive Penny's flaky moments whereas Riley got criticised all the time.
But well done to him he has had a good career with us and he is one of my favourite all time Warrington players and a symbol of our Academy actually bearing fruit. Will be sad to see him missing permanently from the teamsheet.

| Will always have a soft spot for Waterhouse after his playoff try at Langtree in 2012 - when he barged over with saints players on his back, that killed the 'hoodoo' for me well and truly. Kudos, sir!
