| I think part of the reason is, now we are one of the top teams away fans travel less due to them having less chance of winning.

| i think the main reason is because of the rfl not getting a sponsor. i watch sky sports religiously and there hasnt been one advert i have seen promoting our game and whats on unless rugby league is on at the same time. normally we would have adverts inbetween the super sunday football games and that. The only one i have seen is the bradley wiggins and sam tomkins adverts right before the season started
as my old man always says, rugby league is a game played by men ran by a group of boys

| Responsibility for promoting the club starts and ends with the club
Surely they have a well paid marketing manager, who must be in cloud cuckoo land if he feels all that could be done is being so
Think we are missing a trick in not enticing potential new fans by following the Huddersfield eg of dropping prices for our cup game with them
Generally I feel the club is relying on loyalty of existing season ticket holders which is dangerous as ppl inevitably drop away and we don't appear doing all we can to attract fans from a new fan base

| A lot of it is down to the product. Super League changed what is was to stop Saints winning. Slowing down the ruck to stop hooker scooting means the fast paced (Albeit farcical at times with the defense back peddling) game we used to have has been replaced with a horrifically poor imitation of the NRL. Slow play the balls, terrible attacking structures and a complete lack of intensity in 99% of SL games.
The clubs have to take as much flack for it as the administrators do. They have taken the play off structure to heart far to much. The top 8 system means that for most teams there really is no benefit at all to trying to win every game. Teams pick and choose games and whole periods of the season and you can tell most weeks that the teams are just going through the motions.

When did it become the RFL or Sky's job to market games at the Halliwell Jones? I'm bored of Red Hall being used as an easy scapegoat.

| If you do it right you can market effectively on the cheap, it just takes more effort.
Door stopping, Flyers in papers, Small stalls in busy areas promoting, Chugging without the sign ups (just make people aware).
Even erect a billboard outside the stadium on the North-East corner pointing towards the A49.
Workshops: public ones, one in business, schools (Primary, Secondary, College, Uni)
Open days.
None of that costs massive amounts of ££, just as long as you have people willing to help.

dont be silly we have constantly dicked around with the rules ..........you won the title back to back in 99 and 2000 hardly a decade of domination. And to be fair we are changing the rules now because you LOST so many times and made the competition look bleedin stupid
Quote: Saddened! Saints did it loads. No one in the NRL did it............. you imagine Wayne Bennett telling Allan Langer, Darren lockyer and Gordon Tallis this...
" look lads ive got a great move that Long Cunnningham and Sculthorpe do at Saints. first, Locky go in at dummy half we get a quick play the ball and scoot it up Alfie... next you dive in at dummy half pick the ball up and run..quick as bugger.... then Gordy you get at dummy half and scoot it up big style..... we'll have made half a mile... then Alfie drop back in at first reciver for the next and Pass it around like a hot spud and they'll think we are the fanciest team in world.... if we dont score on that tackle boot it anywhere on the last.... come on you big gallarrrs"

You really believe that, don't you? The main reason for Saints not winning is that they haven't replaced their stars and their overseas signings have been disasterous. Even you can't blame SL or the RFL for that.

| I think a problem is that because it is a game played by human beings they can only pass & catch at a certain rate before mistakes creep in such dropped ball & breakdown in play so you finish up with a game that is slower than what you want to get away from. The Hull game was a classic of unforced errors.

A very simple and precise reason with which I would completely agree. Whatever the rules ( or interpretation of the rules), you adapt the play accordingly.

| I think that the main reason home attendances are dropping is economics, people being able/forced to pick and choose, simple as that and certainly nothing to do with anti Saints rule changes by the RFL ha ha. The regular rounds counting debate is another factor.
I attended home games as part of a group of 6-8 and we are now down to 2. The 'lost souls' probably a couple of thousand if this pattern is repeated elsewhere, have plenty of Wire watching non texting experience between them through thick and thin and I'm not sure what the club can do to get these 'lads' back week in week out.
It's not as simple as marketing, that might work for 'new' fans. They all know that there is a game on and keep up with news generally, turn out for Wigan Saints and spend their £20 on ale if we are on SKY.
Not knocking them BTW it's their choice and it seems to be the way that plenty of others 'follow' Wire/the sport in general but I'd like to see that 'couple of thousand' back inside the ground supporting the team and admiring the flags

It's interesting that Sky viewing audiences have gone up so much, I wonder if fans are also opting out of ST's and watching more on TV ?
