| Quote: Fearnhead Cross "The difference I think this year with Briers is that he doesn't have to do it all himself to organise & direct the team. Yesterday was a good example where Grix & Myler took on the kicking role at times during the game & also Briers was standing @ 1st receiver with the opposition expecting him to do something, he passed it on to Myler causing the defence to shift & refocus on who is to kick or step through.'"
tell you what, its not been mentioned from yesterday but GRix really does fit in well at 13 in that triangle, he plays off briers and myler really good and had an excellent game. Great ball running as well.

Agreed. Like a lot of players he has really come on this season under Smith & after a slow start is taking on more responsibility

agreed, i dont think Grix gets the credit he deserves sometimes.
If you look at the sucessful teams of the past, wigan - farrell, leeds - sinfield, saints - sully, they all had strong running loose forwards who could not only pass well but had a very good kicking game too. We have options all across the team when it comes to kicking, (briers, myler, monas, bridge) on the last tackle an IMO grix is one of those optioms too
but briers, what can be said about him what hasnt been said already.. Best brain in rugby league the guy will go down as a legend...

| When Briers caught the ball from kick-off, he'd delibrately kept a foot out of play, hence we got a penalty on halfway for it 'going out on the full'.
IIRC this law was ammended a few years ago and players were now effectively prevented for using this ploy. Was Phil Bentham wrong with his decision, has the rule reverted, or is it just me?

Mummy duck is now thoroughly depressed. SHE was the one that was famous for losing five in a row........until the 2011 GF!!!!!: |
|
| Briers is an excellent player and I still think Wigan only beat us coz the team lost direction in the 15 minutes aftre he went off. Now the team have learnt "to cope" without him because of his adbsense but also Richie Myler is now becoming a better player due to the confidence he is getting from playing and probably training fully with Briers.

| i reckon if briers had been playing underneath tony smith for say 5 years instead of one and a half he could have possibly ended his career as one of the all time great british half backs instead of a legend to wire speccies and a mercurial talent to everyone else

The rule was amended to stop players putting a foot over the dead ball line and batting a bouncing ball out of play thus gaining a tap on the 20 instead of a drop out. As far as catching the ball on the full with a foot behind the line goes, that is classed as the ball going out on the full & is therefore a penalty from where the ball was kicked from (ie halfway). Same as taking the ball on the full with one foot over the sideline will result in a scrum/handover from where the ball was kicked but if the ball bounces in either situation it is "live" and catching it with one foot over the line will be either a drop out or scrum to the kicking side at point of departure from field.

Interesting point - no doubt at all to the impact TS has had on Lee Briers, but is this new found maturity on & off the field a direct result of TS joining the club or of Lee Briers growing up?

You would never catch me with one of those childish signatures: |
|
| If he carries on this sort of form surely McNamara will have to consider him for the 4 nations at the end of the season. ( I know he's Welsh, but players switch countries all the time in league) He's by far the most creative stand off in superleague, his kicking game is sublime and his reading and of the game is awesome. Behind the platform England have in the pack, he's got the keys to unlock the best defences in the world.

| Let's be serious - is Steve Macnamara really going to consider Lee Briers for England (should Lee Briers even wish to play for England which he has said he wouldn't do) over Eastmond & Tomkins at halves with likelihood of Myler/Burrow/McGuire/Pryce as back up? No.
Lee Briers gave a stand-off masterclass on Saturday. He has been a fantastic servant to Warrington over 13 or so years. In the half dozen games he has played for us this season he has been very very good. Finally having a scrum half to play alongside him instead of a hooker at 7 has been a Godsend for him. But really we need to keep a little perspective here - he ain't going to go to Australia for the 4 Nations except as a spectator.

| He's helping Myler learn the game as well.
They link up very well, Myler even did a carbon copy of Briers kick in the first half that set up Bridge to score
