He probably makes on average 10 more tackles than everyone else so i'll let him off.

What's he like in comparison with Morley?

To be fair, Ben is 21. He's a prop. He needs to be a big guy to fly down the middle and do some serious damage. What was it someone said? A prop doesn't hit form until they are 25 or so, meaning he has 4 years to become "on form", his stats may show he misses 1 in 10 tackles, but those other 9 are some seriously big hits.

He hasn't missed a game all season, the only player to play in every game so far. Smith obviously likes his performances, otherwise he wouldn't be playing every game from start.

And I heard on BBC that he has done a muscle in his groin, should be ok though he looked fine when he was walking around the pitch!

Morley's missed tackle rate is about the same. Morleys metres are 70% more with 35% more carries than BH despite playing 4 less games. BH edges the tackles made and marker tackles.

He is a very promising young player and will develop, but he is not the real deal just yet.

Darlings of Super League:

Harrison is an absolute star of the future and already a terrific player, a must on the teamsheet week-in week-out.

Other teams/pundits are starting to notice him properly this season for the ferocity of his hits and his commitment on the field. His barnstorming run on the back of Monas' break was a taste of his future as a tough but skilful prop forward.

Agreed, the development in his game under Smith is quite unbelievable. He's gone from fringe player to nailed on starter in three months.

His game is developing so quickly, he tackles anything that moves, sometimes connecting with some of the biggest shots I've seen. He makes better decisions now, takes more mature options like that break from the Monas pass, didn't look for support, just went and made as many yards as he could. His skill levels are improving, there was a flick pass on Saturday to Briers, insane. If Solomona had done it, spunk everywhere.

He can be as good as he wants to be, he's already a very good SL player. He'd run close for my SL Young Player Of The Year.

It's a difficult one for me this.
Id love to know what TS sees in him (not us punters).
Obviously as has been said before TS has taken a shine to him and is giving him a chance - and he's played in all pack positions except hooker. (I suspect TS isn't exactly sure of his best position - nor ben himself)

To me he's got a good work rate and shows some good handling, but nothing 'out of this world' like some seem to think.

If you look at Steve P - now he's seen as a liability for giving penalties away but I think he's far more agressive in the tackle and going forward, yet he is on loan at Widnes (Ok his injuries may be an issue).

I am genuinely interested to understand why one appears to have a bright future and the other doesn't

right, well i'd disagree slightly with what you've said about TS playing binge all over the place, since smith took over ben has pretty much been a fixture at looseforward performing in a specific role, occasionally helping out at prop when we've been short in matches.

Pickers it was said was sent out to widnes to get himself back in shape, it was stated that he his rehab from his knee injury last year hadn't been done correctly so he still wasn't fully fit and up to SL fitness, so he'd been concentrating on re-rehabbing if you will, and playing at a lower level.

I know ppl see picks as a penalty machine, but theres nowt to say if he got a run in the wolves first team he couldn't potentially shape up something like harrison.

I agree. Picks going to Widnes was to help his re-hab, my brother had to have the same op and has never been the same since. Its a mjor op so I can appreciate how hard its for rugby players .to come back from it is immense when you think of the pounding they take.
Hope Picks makes a return the lads all warr. heart.

I too hope we see Picks back in the first team as I really rate him. I feel he has a lot more to offer than Rah.

Wow. So if anything then, defence is his strong point not offence.

The stats suprise me. I always had in my mind that he was stronger in attack with good ball handling skills (for a forward) than defence. I guess I just notice missed tackles more, of which he makes a high number (In fact 12th on the list of all Super League players).

I think his game time is big reason for that. Shame they don't have minutes on the pitch.

I hope you're right about Picks - there were times last year when he looked more than useful - and I think he has a lot to offer.
I thought Ben had played at loose then second row, but maybe it's linked to the opposition we play as you say.
