| Quote: AJ Viking "We wouldn't move for Briers, we have 3 half backs in Webster, Duffy and Thackeray, and are apparently at full cap. If we did bring someone in, it would be a prop.
Barrow tried to sign James Webster but he opted for us, maybe they are still looking for a big half backsigning.'"
That rules Briers out then

| The [isame[/i Paul Cullen that made Lee Briers captain of Warrington?
The [isame[/i Paul Cullen that called the [isame[/i Lee Briers 'the most naturally gifted halfback in Super League?
The [isame[/i Paul Cullen that openly voiced his confusion as to why the [isame[/i Lee Briers never played a Full GB test?
The [isame[/i Paul Cullen who dubbed the [isame[/i Lee Briers 'the cleverest player in the Super League'?
The [isame[/i Paul Cullen that extended Lee Briers' contract a number of times during his tenure at Warrington?
I agree. Don't think he rates him much, to be honest.

| Quote: Rob Wire "Why would that be a good swap ? We need experience and proven, reliable performers at the min with a touch of class'"
Yep - having Briers in our team has brought us countless trophies. We also had a first team coach who as a player was extremely successful (something which I believe you have consistently called for in the past, correct me if I'm wrong but weren't you one of the ones calling for Sean Edwards to coach us based purely on his playing record before he moved in to coaching Union?) - and look what that got us.
Quote: Rob Wire "and not a rookie that hasn`t achieved anything at this level so far other than having a bit of potential. We don`t have the luxury to chance this sort of rookie at the min given our present situation.'"
What has Briers achieved in club rugby? not a great deal, really.
I think what this team needs is not so much players with bags of experience, success and an age group of 30-35, but players with ability who have a thirst to prove themselves and take any opportunities they get.
Quote: Rob Wire "
Personally i think it could take upto 3 years to get us to anything like a proper team that plays for each other and to understand what putting on a professional RL jersey should mean to a player.'"
I would agree with that - however, Tony Smith seems to be indicating that he has a sufficiently capable squad of players available to him and that things are fixable, given his record in coaching so far (ignoring the RLWC of course) I think I'm prepared to stick by him and see what improvements are made between now and the end of the season ... I definitely don't think getting rid of players right now is the answer, mainly because any quality replacements for released players are unlikely to be available.

Firstly, i`m not sure what point your trying to make here, i`ll refer you back to what you quoted me on when i was describing the type of halback we need at the min "We need experience and proven, reliable performers at the min with a touch of class".
Since when has Lee Briers ever been a reliable performer ? I was obviously stating that we need a player who has experience, is a reliable performer with a touch of class and that isn`t Lee Briers is it from the part i have put in bold.
I was comparing Richie Myler who is a rookie and is the type of player which we don`t need right now in such a key position to the type of player which we do need and is in the quotation marks above.
No, it wasn`t me that was calling for Sean Edwards. It was someone else that raised his name and i expressed my doubts about Edwards as to how long he had been away from rugby league went, it would have been like chancing yet another rookie coach which had no guarnetees and its not what we didn`t need at the time is what i said.
My choices in the past for head coach were Craig Bellamy as the ideal man for the job but more realistically i said Tony Smith was the one we were most likely to get as he had no club ties.

| Fair enough Rob, I initially read your post as though you were comparing potential candidates to what we already had (i.e., I thought you were referring to Briers as the man who met your required standards).
Also, I could have sworn that you were one of the many "Edwards in" brigade, senility must be setting in early

Correct Rob a week ago Sam Tomkins was the answer to wigans prayers.
on Friday at Leeds he was the invisible man(boy).
they can not challenge for trophies with a boy in that position.

No Paul, like i typed above i have my doubts about any person that has been away from rugby league for as long as Sean Edwards has been away and then coming back as a coach, the game has changed a lot since his playing days and a rookie coach is not what we needed before Tony Smith took over. Thats why i raised my concerns about Lowes being given the job when he was announced as our new coach as he was a rookie himself who also was part of the shambolic Salford season that cost Karl Harrison his job.
